Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty
TT is definitely not representative of the domestic reel market. Nationwide right hand retrieve reels dominate sales, though I think more and more people are purchasing left hand retrieve reels. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think left hand retrieve reels dominate the JDM.
For me it's not about switching hands. It's about control and dexterity when turning the handle. Currently my right hand is more coordinated when it comes to turning the handle, particularly in combination with twitching the rod with jerkbaits/topwaters. My left hand lost the mojo it once had when I first started with a left hand retrieve reel. As far as controlling the rod, the rod does feel better in my right hand with tip up presentations compared to my left, however the combination of rod in left hand and right hand retrieve is more comfortable overall. It's definitely a trade off.

And this is one of the reasons why I cast with my right arm/hand, switch it to my left arm/hand, and then reel with my right hand. The benefits of both worlds. Mwa-hahahahaha, I can use the E5!!...actually have two of them.froteur wrote:More lefty reels!!! More lefty reels!!! In other words ..... give us a lefty Shimano E5!!!

I am left handed and of course reel with right hand so baitcasters work out perfect for me. Change my spinning reels to right hand retreive also.
Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty
Switched to left in 2004 due to some neck surgery and never looked back. However I will never be as smooth with the left hand!
Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty
I am quite surprised at the number of lefties. Add me to the list
Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty
Not sure how to answer the question. It used to be all rods were in my right hand. Then I developed tendonitis and had to learn to work the casting rod with my left. It turns out I am actually more accurate this way . I have both left and right handed casting reels.
My spinning outfits still are held by my right hand.
I am left handed. We leftys do not always do thing the same way from one to another.

I wonder if this poll combined with the stance of Shimano on the lack of market is a reason the other poll is greatly favoring Daiwa?
It would seem to hold true among this group of anglers.

Vladimir_Kazan did the same Daiwa vs. Shimano Poll 2 months ago and got the opposite results.Bob Ellis wrote:I wonder if this poll combined with the stance of Shimano on the lack of market is a reason the other poll is greatly favoring Daiwa?

When it's that close you just have to call it 50/50.
The best part of these Topics Cal started is they are the 1st Polls that are sticky and you can change your vote!
So it will be a more accurate example of the TT demo.

I reel right handed for casting & let for spinning. When I first got back into fishing, I got a RH retrieve & traded it for a LH thinking it'd be worlds better, and it wasn't. So I went RH since I consider switching hands not that big of a deal & there were several reels I was interested in that were RH only. Spinning, I go LH retrieve, as that's the way I've always done it & it'd be weird having to switch hands with the way I wrap my fingers around a spinning rod as compared to a casting rod, where I"m palming the rod & reel.

Dominant right, reel right, just feels right. . However most of my friends that have made the transition from spinning gear to casting gear reel left, because that's what their used to, so seems like there would be ample demand.
Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty
I'm right hand dominate. Cast with the rod in my right hand, switch the rod to my left, and reel with my right. I do the same for spinning reels. My left hand is almost completely worthless.

I'm more used to right-handed reels than left.
