I owned Daiwa for BFS and medium setup, but for heavy lure /big bait setup I go for shimano due to its simplicity on design and adjustment. Calcutta 400 (jdm version of 400D) really impressed me, really hard to backlash with this reel even though I set tension cap to the point of massive spool overruns. Check my review video

Owned them all but Like most Daiwa and shimano seem to always get more use. But Daiwa just has always seem to have more mystic to it since the early TD days. Daiwa is my favorite by far. Still got love for some shimanos though.

Voted Shimano as they have always been my go to reels. I do have a Zillion Coastal that I like as well.

All my Pixzillas are Daiwas but there's nothing like a Conquest or a DC7 Calais.

Vote for Shimano too but I still own some Daiwa reels, Alphas SV 105 and Luna 253 and used to own steez ex100, tatula Ct type R but sold those to make room for Shimano.

New guy here, though I have been mooching info from you guys for quite a while now.
I am most definitely a Daiwa guy. Not that I don't have a good number of other reels.

I have 13 spinning reels, 9 of which are Pflueger Presidents, 3 are lower priced Daiwa Revros and Legalis and 1 KastKing Sharkey II that I actually like. I don't really consider the spinning reels so important to me to make me want to spend a ton of money on them. They are all on rigs that I use and enjoy, but in a limited way like 6 Crappie poles, a couple of massive 10' trolling rigs, ultra light rigs, and etc. Stuff that I only use for a few weeks a year for very particular things. The Pfuegers have been excellent for this.

I have a couple of the Swedish Abu round bait casters that I mostly use for cut bait fishing or for using live bluegill on the Flathead spawn. I like them a lot and have had them for ages. Also a pair of Daiwa Line counters that I use on trolling rigs.

I voted based on my LP bait casters though. I love the JDM stuff from Daiwa. I currently have 4 TDZ 103 (my absolute fav's), 4 Px68R, 4 Steez 100h, 2 SS SV, 1 Tat CT-R (very under rated IMO), 1 Tat SV, and 2 low cost Laguna 100 (probably the best $50 reel made).

Other than that I have a couple of Abu Revo SX G3(decent if a bit clunky), a Pfueger Supreme XT (Ho Hum...)

And then there are a half dozen of the various KastKing reels that I bought on a whim just to see what all the fuss is about. Still don't know what all the fuss is about since only one was deemed worthy of putting on a rod (except the 1 spinning reel which is actually pretty nice). I fished with that 1 Kastking for about 2 hours before I put it back in the box. I'd sell them all off if I thought anyone would give me something for them. I considered giving them to my young grandson, but just don't have the heart to dump that junk on him. He'll get the Lagunas to start with. (I don't trust his dad, my son , to do the right thing as he is a Lew's guy.)

Oh yeah, I do have a couple of old Zebco 33 and a Johnson Century left over from the old days, kept for nostalgic reasons (they were my Dad's)

Funny, for as many Shimanos and Daiwas I've owned, I have none!

2 BPS Carbonlite 2.0's
2 BPS Carbonlites (gold models)
2 Lews BB1 Pros
4 Abu Revo Premier Gen 2's

So it's a mixture for me, as long as the reel is a dual brake system, or centrifical system.

Spinning is all Plueger Supreme MG's or Patriarchs.

I have both , Shimano and Daiwa. I tend to prefer the Shimanos a little more. The Daiwa has a few features that make them more user friendly for certain applications for me. I am not a fan of the T wing system, but I have a few reels with them.
