Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Every reel that I own has Shimano written on it. Always will.

I have been a Daiwa guy for a long time. And now that I have Tatulas, I don't see that changing for a long time. Love these things!

I own 11 reels.
6 Daiwas, 2 Megabass, 2 Abu's and 1 Shimano

I'll be replacing the Abu's with Megabass this year.
I'm also looking to add another Megabass to my arsenal.

I have a hord of Shimano Curado 51e's and 201e7's for baitcasters. Thinking of upgrading to Cores this year, or will supertune the Curados.

Recently swapped out my Shimano spinning reels for Quantum Exos after the dreaded binding during retrieve due to the reels being exposed to the rain while fishing in kayak tournaments. We'll see how the Exos hold up in 2015, or I'll be making the switch again

I like Daiwa and Shimano, but prefer JDM Daiwa.

Daiwa, just cos I love my new Zonda Rosso :big grin: That being said, I have an Okuma Serrano that is a great reel. Very smooth, plenty of power, and it's a good bait chunker. Other than having to remove the side plate to adjust the brake, which I don't really care for, it's a very solid, well made reel. Well worth the $80 I bought it for, especially with a three year warranty. I'm sure I'll eventually try a Shimano, but right now nothing in their line up interests me but the Conquests. I want to add another MB reel this year (think round) and I'd also like to add an Alphas or a TD-Z and a Ryoga. Eventually wanna snag an Abu Morrum as well.

I've come back to the light side (daiwa) after my love of the curado d series became dated. Still have a couple shimanos but you can't beat that connected feeling a daiwa reel has. Zillions, steezs, sol's for me as of now.

I voted Daiwa, I really like their spinning reels and the top end baitcasters. Shimano has a very solid line up as well. I gotta admit even though I voted Daiwa I'm very surprised that Shimano isn't walking away with this Poll.

I love the few Daiwas I own but Shimano's overall line-up dominates. Better value in their low profile, better saltwater line(both spinning and conventional), and a wider variety for anything that swims fresh or salt. With that being said, Daiwa is a close second for me because the Zillion Type R and the Luna 300 just keep going strong. Have had some issues with Calcutta TE and Curado 300 DSV which are known to be very durable reels.

Shimano's stepping there game up, but there's just something about those Made in Japan Daiwa's :big grin:

Shimano guy here. I simply like their reels. New here on the forum and immediately I noticed quite a Diawa following.
