Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?

Post by Cal »

Time to find out which manufacturer is truly king on this board with regards to reels.... and since we know people often change your mind... your vote is not final ;)

Freshwater manufacturers only...

Shimano . . . for now, however I do not like their newer frame with the little "bump" that protrudes on the hatch side.

I voted Daiwa, but my vote could change very easily. I've been very disappointed by Daiwa's failure to introduce a quality all purpose reel in the $170-$220 range. I don't want to spend retail on the Zillions, although they are quality reels, and the Aggrest is very underwhelming. Having stated my preference for Daiwa, the last three reels I purchased were from other companies. Unless Daiwa steps it up, I'll probably be looking elsewhere.

I was hoping that I would really like Shimano's Curado E series, but I also find the "bump" on the hatch side uncomfortable. I've yet to try either the 50E or 300E, but I don't have the need at the moment, so they'll have to wait.

I love Daiwa and Shimano equaly but if I have to pick....Shimano for now, based on there dedication to a veriaty of sizes and speeds in Most of their lineup of reels.
However that Zillion Type R has me second guessing myself.

Those were great polls Vlad.
Its a shame we lost them for now. It's great to see you kept the info from all of them.

I always love daiwa's design, innovation and precision ever since . currently they don't have anything that is exciting in the USDM market, but I smell something is cooking on the JDM offering that is coming soon to the USDM market. Can't wait for the T3 and the Z to come out in the usdm market

Thank you vArm,
As always I'll make a resume on them, with links/comparisons to previous polls... But later. For me dark bar now, no mood for it, sorry.
Later!

I like Shimano and Daiwa both equally but the flavor of the month right now is Daiwa.

I don't have a specific vote since I fish regularly with about 5 different manufacturer's reels but I will say I have more Shimano's than any other, my favorite reel is my 2010 Revo Premier, and 2nd in line is my newest reel, my Patriarch XT.

I have Daiwa, Shimano and Abu Garcia reels, but for right now I voted for Lews. I picked up some of their new reels to try out this spring and so far they have been very very impressive. Especially when you consider their price point when compared to some of the other reel manufactures.

Revo Premier put Abu over the top, although the JDM Daiwas are nice. I need a reel that handles the brackish.
