Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

If i had unlimited amount of money, i don't see a reason to use anything else but Megabass. Since that's not the case, i stick to Daiwa because i much prefer their MagZ over Shimano's 'open sideplate, adjust, close sideplate. Then do it again if casting something lighter/not as aerodynamic or wind is a factor', hate this part when it comes to Shimano reels.

My name says it all.

Daiwa for thier looks and because of their magnetic braking system.

Shimano reels have a tighter tolerance I like the new Shimano exterior adjustable braking system o the CuradoShimanos. Wish they would have kept the aluminum side plates. Makes for more of a quality reel.

Diamonds are to women as aluminum fishing reels are to fishermans in salt water.

But since daiwa came out with the T-wing design in casting on their low profile, I think their percentage sales might increase in my pocket book.

Daiwa is innovative and their reels are prettier to look with all the different colors, makes you want to buy one of each such as the millionaire and zillionaire series. At least when I'm not fishing I can a least play with my nobs. Fishing nobs that is.

With JDM it's even more of a challenge.

Shimano and Daiwa are like sister companies. A Duopoly one shall say. Since when Shimnao comes out with a reel Daiwa comes out with a good competitor or visa-versa.

Haven't seen anything with Shimnao to compete with the T-wing Concept yet though.

Some stuff you just can't get in the U.S and that's unfortunate. Maybe due to low sales or higher price tag for designer reels in the U.S market.

Or maybe because Japan wants to keep all the good stuff for themselves.

What I've notice is that in some products even China gets a different model or a lower design model.

Japan gets the top of the line sh!t
U.S get the regular sh!t.
China gets the cheap sh!t.

Right now I have even numbers of Daiwa and Shimano casting reels. Spinning is almost all Shimano. Not sure what way it will tip come this off season.

Would be funny if someone chose Ardent over brands like Daiwa/Shimano/MB

We don't a formal intro/new member section, Miscellaneous Section -"Everything Else" Sub-section, is a catch all for topics not fitting anywhere else.

Shimano here. I have used Shimano, Daiwa, ABU (Revo) and still have and use the old Lew's BB1 series. Nothing I've used has ever compared to Shimano in terms of being tough and issue free, other than the original Lew's. I use Curados and Chronarchs and have found them to be pretty much bullet proof.

I fish spinning reels primarily and have/had Okuma's, Daiwa's, Shimano's, Pflueger's and most recently the Ardent Forge. I reach for my Daiwa's and Pflueger Supreme MGX first and foremost but find myself using the Ardent for my light line fishing- 1000 series for trout and panfish is phenomenal. Drag is great on this reel. I like, don't love my Shimano and have given up on the Okuma's. They work great for the first year, but the slop in these things are horrible. They age like a Chevy...

Shimano, but I'm open minded and occasionally look at other offerings to see what they have to offer.

Primary Daiwa, primarily the alphas and TDZ framed reels.
