Recommendations for a hairjig rod

Looking for a spinning rod that can throw 1/8 oz hairjigs, 1/8oz jigheads with small swimbaits and hover type of baits a decent distance. I’ll be pairing it with a Daiwa 2500 ballistic using 10/12lb braid to a 6/8lb leader. I have a few 2 power Dobyns rods that aren’t whippy enough in the tip to cast them very far. Here are a few rods I’ve been looking into so far but I’m really looking for suggestions,

Dobyns - Xtasy 721sf or the Champ Extreme 741sf
Shimano - Zodias 72 ml+ or the Expride 72 ml
Daiwa - Tatula 71 ml
Megabass - Levante whipsnake or shaky head or Orochi xx shakeyhead

I have the IMX Pro SJR 901 which is a 7'6 light powered spinning rod that I use for all kinds of small lures and it amazing.

but it was designed specifically for throwing small hair jigs.

its rated for up to 5/16 oz lures and I use a Nasci 1000 reel on it with 6 pound test Sufix Siege.

Kind of depends on how you throw a hair jig. In my neck of the woods we have always dragged a hair jig slowly on the bottom in the spring, like how people fish a Ned rig. In that case the rods you mentioned are great choices.

If you are looking to throw the marabou hair jigs and reel them through the water column like has become popular I think most will suggest a 7’6 light action rod.

I know personally I’m am considering the Shimano Zodias 7’6 light for the marabou jigs.

I plan on both, I tie my own hair so I make a ton of different varieties and either fish them like I’m trying to lose them (counting rocks) or just use a chuck and swim technique. My main issue is being able to make long casts with the light ones (1/8oz). I use light to medium wire hooks so I’d like something that has a whippy tip with solid backbone to keep these smallmouth buttoned up. I’ve also heard good things about the Zodias too

I think you will love the IMX Pro then if you decide to go that route.

A rod that I would love to get my hands on that I believe might be perfect for bottom hair jigs is the IMX pro 7’4 Ned rig rod. I can’t find one review for that rod anywhere.

I would certainly look at Tatula 7'6 ML/M models. Also the 7-6 or 7-3 ML St. Croix LTB.

I've got a couple that I use for 1/8 oz marabout jigs that never touch bottom and both are 7' 6'' Light. The more expensive one is a 901 S Loomis NRX that gives me the most distance; the second one is a Curado L 7'6'' spinning rod that is great for the price. These are used on flats to throw light jigs for smallmouth.

I'm curious as well. Trying to build a hair jig/stroll set up on a budget and considering the Tatula and the Phenix Feather 7-7L and Recon Elite 7-6L.

The Chris Johnston and 901 have the same bend under load. Extremely similar in that regard. Hope that helps.

I should preface that I have zero time with non NRX 901’s original or current.

I throw a ton of hair both up in the column and down, one is always rigged.

I went a different route than the mainstream consensus but has been nice to see manufacturers in recent years offering better brown bass offerings.
