7'6" ML - M spinning rod for mid cranks

Post by dragon1 » Sat Nov 11, 2023 8:20 pm

So I have rediscovered how much I like a quality mod-fast spinning combo for lighter balsa shallow-mid cranks like the DT4-DT6.

I was really enjoying my Daiwa BLX 6'10" ML Limber Graphite spinning rod today with 16lb SS112 braid + leader and mid depth silent balsa cranks.

I would like a longer ~ 7'6" ML - M spinning rod with the same softer tip and mod-fast taper and with a good enough backbone to handle most bass situations.

Please recommend what you think would be worth considering.

TIA.

I have the SJR 901 S IMX Pro and its amazing for small light lures. its a light power rating

For something a little bit heavier like the DT series the SJR 902 IMX Pro might be just perfect. its rated 1/8 to 3/8 oz lures

Daiwa Steez 7-6 ML/M
St. Croix 7'-6" ML XF avid walleye or Legend Tourney
Daiwa Tatula 7-6 ML/M
G. loomis 902S - 901S is too light
Shimano Expride 7-6 ML plus is also an option on my radar. Haven't fished that yet.

All winners at different price ranges.

Good stuff fellas, and all of those rods including some others have been recommended to me. Yes, I agree that the 901S is likely too soft for my techs.

I am really intrigued by the Legend Glass 7'2" MMF spinning as well, but I want to know the finished weight, and the Victory 7'10" MMF was also a recommendation but I don't like the components and build of it.

The rod that no one seems to have in stock that really seems to fit the bill well...

Phenix X12-S composite spinning.

I considered that rod for underspins, smaller jerkbaits, neds, lighter tubes/plastics/Senkos, and even small open hook paddletails/swimbaits...it not quite right for braid + leader for lighter balsa cranks. There are a few crankbait spec baitcast rods with the proper blank, but the same model is not offered in spinning.

The more I fish 7-6 spinners the more I like them. Very versatile and you can cast a mile! Fun fight with any fish too.
