New NRX / GLX
Hi everyone… as my old GLX 852C is worn out, I can replace it with a GLX or upgrade to NRX via GLoomis warranty program. Generally speaking, I feel like I have a rod for almost every way I know to fish for bass (tbh my library of techniques isn’t huge), but a) would love to learn more and b) here I am on tackletour so need and practicality when it comes to fishing gear are more abstract concepts .
I tend to fish shallower grass and timber as my usual haunts tend to be shallow and weedy (rarely exceed 14’ depth) and I tend to fish jigs / spinnerbaits / t-rig soft plastics for the northern LMB and smallmouth in my area, with the odd pike showing up.
If you could add one GLX or NRX to my rod line up, what would it be? If so, for what techniques?
Current line up - 7’1” and 6’10” MH Shimano cumulus, nrx 873c, dobyns champ 736c and 795c swimbait rod, 6’5” bfs and 6’10M Expride (crank/jerkbait rod), 6’8” BFS major craft DAys, 8’ swimbait Shimano crucial
Curious to hear what you all think.. thanks!

How do you wear out a rod?

With your current line up I'd pick a nrx 842c it will do it all on the lighter side

If I posted pictures, you’d understand. The loomis techs took one look at it and even though it was intact, they’re like go get a warranty replacement. I think the best word I can describe it with is the rod looked tired.

Thank you! That’s an MBR, right? Hoping that could do the heavier end of my bfs work…bronzebacks wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 4:42 pmWith your current line up I'd pick a nrx 842c it will do it all on the lighter side

Re: New NRX / GLX
I've been using a current version of the GLX 842c MBR for light stuff for a while, and it GREAT!
I have an Alphas Air TW on it, and it casts Neds and light shaky heads great, it's super sensitive, and light as a feather.
It's my favorite shaky head set up I have ever used. For Neds I use 8lb FC leaders, and shaky heads 10lb FC leaders on 8lb braid.

Re: New NRX / GLX
They used to warranty rods for lifetime from the GL3 up, but that was the past.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
Re: New NRX / GLX
Whether you go GLX or NRX stick with the 852c JWR. Once you go MBR you gain versatility and lose sensitivity.
If you have the ability, I would go NRX+ just for the resale value allow even if sensitivity isn't your main concern.
But the 852c is a top tier rod of the lineup for a reason...

After picking up a Conquest 842c I sold my NRX 852c. The MBR action is more versatile.Dan B wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2023 7:28 amWhether you go GLX or NRX stick with the 852c JWR. Once you go MBR you gain versatility and lose sensitivity.

Re: New NRX / GLX
I didn’t sell my NRX 852, but it doesn’t get used nearly as much as my 842’s. It’s NRX/Conquest, and I don’t notice any loss of sensitivity. There’s nothing that the 852 will do that the 842 won’t do, while there’s a lot of things I wouldn’t use the 852 for that the 842 does well. Original NRX and Conquest were very different rods, extremely light tip on the NRX while the Conquest feels more like a normal medium powered rod. No experience with the NRX+ 842, so not sure if it’s the same as the old or updated to be more like the Conquest, and sold the GLX after picking up the Conquest.tmd11111 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2023 2:47 pmAfter picking up a Conquest 842c I sold my NRX 852c. As far as warranty, Lifetime might not apply anymore, but you can still use the Xpeditor program for any reason for a small fraction of the cost of the rod.
Re: New NRX / GLX
They should. If you paid for a rod from them with a lifetime warranty you should still get a lifetime warranty.
doesnt matter if it was 15 or 20 years ago or not.
Not sure what they do these days though. I guess they replace with a current comparable model?
Re: New NRX / GLX
For clarification the warranty covers the rod against material and manufacturer defects. It does not cover things like wear and tear or abuse. It is not a "no questions asked" type of warranty. The G.Loomis rods are still covered by the lifetime warranty. That has not changed. Just know the difference between what a warranty will or will not cover.
This is why there is the Expeditor program to replace those rods that are not a warranty issue.

Hey Bantam, any idea on if newly designed glx rods are in the works for the near future. Seems like its been a while since those saw a revamp.
