1/3 the Price Off

Post by goldrod » Fri Jul 17, 2020 9:22 pm

Any rod, for 1/3rd the price off....which would you choose ?
Or any rod that is say $300 you will only pay $80 what would you chose? So essentially thats just over 2/3 off.
Im trying to help a guy I know and I suggested the Daiwa Steez AGS or Shimano Expride because IMHO your getting more.
I dont have any AGS rods but I have the bottom contact rods and think they should be similar. This question isn't about what he likes to do but just buy something and be done with it. Of note I did tell him to look at the St. Croix rod but I dont have enough reliable feedback to suggest it.. He has til 1st August to make a decision and Im asking you guys. Thanks

Oh yeah and I dont know much about the P5 Dark Sleeper but it seems interesting I dont have no information on it do say dive in but maybe someone else does.

I kinda want the newest poison adrena line in a MH. Taper is moderate fast, tho so im not sure if its good enough to use in and around veggies.

Steez Bottom Contact. I've been eying a new jig rod for quite some time...this one looks like it could be the one except for that steep price tag.

I’d get another Phenix K2, probably the 7’1” MH. I totally don’t need it, got great options in that part of the lineup already. But I want it ;)

Which of the K2 do you have already?

The 7’1” ML from this thread: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=84127&start=15

It’s turned into my go-to finesse stick for tiny dark sleepers, shaky heads, dropshots (and the occasional small jerkbait). When I know ahead of time that I’ll be dropshotting I still pack the NRX DSR, but for everything else I take the K2.

Steez Bottom Contact. I've been looking at it for a while now.

The Bottom Contact is a killer rod. If you get the chance I would snatch one up.

Have not been able to get together
We’ve both been busy and I’m not sure he’s got it in hand but I’ll ask.

I own the 7'3 MH regular fast adrena. Taper is definitely a "moderate fast", tip is pretty soft. It's alright for bottom contact - I prefer a crisper stick, as it's honestly a pain to rip a 1/2oz texas rig or a jig through vegetation with that rod. It's been my go to rod for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits, believe it or not. The soft tip is perfect for moving baits but it has a good backbone as well.

I like mod/fast for spinner/chatterbaits as well. And as you said, mod/fast is a pain to rip through veggies, and the reason why i don't own the rod. They shoud've made it with a fast taper.
