Its rather subjective but I was told that they aren't up to the hype but I personally have not used one.CodyNeely11 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 9:26 amAny more reports? either positive or negative? i am very interested in a couple of these models. thanks!

I can tell you not to many rave reviews of a rod that's been out for some time now
Re: St. Croix Legend Xtreme 2020
My fishing buddy has one of the mh models. He loves it. I tried it few times and I don’t. Nothing particularly wrong with, but I guess I was expecting fireworks and unicorns while dragging a jig.
Visually, I do not like the droplet design on the handle.

Thanks all. I think that tells me what I need to know. I might be seeing a bottom contact in my future
Re: St. Croix Legend Xtreme 2020
I’m holding out til I can get my hands on one. Not having a lot of followers could be good. I’m gonna stay optimistic until I see one in person.CodyNeely11 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 5:24 amThanks all. I think that tells me what I need to know. I might be seeing a bottom contact in my future

That’s fair. I’m leaning towards the bottom contact. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad review on it.goldrod wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 6:05 amI’m holding out til I can get my hands on one. Re: St. Croix Legend Xtreme 2020
The Bottom Contact is a serviceable rod, kind of a jack of all trades for junk fishing, very different from the AGS Legend Xtreme 7ft4 which is more of a football jig/ C-Rig rod and beats out the Bottom Contact in that game easily, despite it's namesake I would not use it mainly for bottom contact fishing, its better suited to spinnerbaits and chatterbaits the more I use it IMO.CodyNeely11 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 3:38 pmThat’s fair. It should really be labeled as an all purpose rod, since it does most things reasonably well for the most part.
If you're in doubt just buy both.

What's your baseline for that "Fireworks and Unicorns" (sounds like a decent band name) feeling? Are there any blanks like the NRX/Xray/K2 (or whatever your preferred top-of-the-line blank is) that do create it, or are you saying you expected it to be a step above even those blanks?
Re: St. Croix Legend Xtreme 2020
My baseline for “fireworks and unicorns” is 76 mml steez but that’s not apple to apple.Drakestar wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 1:08 pmWhat's your baseline for that "Fireworks and Unicorns" (sounds like a decent band name) feeling? My baseline for jigs is fmj. At over x1.5 the price, xtreme model I played with (not sure whether it was fast or xfast) did not feel any more sensitive.
Not saying it is bad rod, but for me it did not live up to internet’s and my friend’s hype.

Thanks! I have both those rods, so that gives me a good idea of what the Xtreme is (and isn't).rando wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 3:54 pmMy baseline for “fireworks and unicorns” is 76 mml steez but that’s not apple to apple.Drakestar wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 1:08 pmWhat's your baseline for that "Fireworks and Unicorns" (sounds like a decent band name) feeling? Re: St. Croix Legend Xtreme 2020
I found a bottom contact new for over 20 percent off. Is the bottom contact still a great rod for plastics, texas rigs, and jigs? Is there something better in the 480 price point?

I purchased one recently and fished it hard the past few days. its a special rod in my opinion. superb balance, great sensitivity, and impressive back bone once you have a fish on. I prefer to have it in my hand over the 2 NRX's i own.

I echo your sentiments. I still prefer the Steez AGS Bottom Contact rod over NRX and St. Croix Legend Xtreme 2020 closest comparable rods in terms of overall fishability, comfort, balance, versatility, and performance.CodyNeely11 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 12:58 pmI purchased one recently and fished it hard the past few days. its a special rod in my opinion. superb balance, great sensitivity, and impressive back bone once you have a fish on. The 761 MML that emerged in this topic comes to mind. I've taken mine out for a few trips now and while I haven't had time for a writeup yet, I can certainly say that I haven't regretted that purchase. viewtopic.php?f=46&t=84871
