I really like the NRX 822 DSR for ned work. The action for me is almost perfect and crazy sensitive. My only wish is that they made a little longer version - an 872 DSR perhaps.

I use a St Croix Legend Walleye rod. 6'6" ML. It is the perfect Ned Rig rod. It can cast light lures well and has enough backbone when needed. I pair it with a Tatula LT 2000, and it's a beautiful combo. I know some guys don't like to use a rod designed to catch Walleye, but I'm OK with it. I compared it to the 6'8" LTB version and I liked the handle and balance better, so that's what I bought.

I have been looking at Walleye rods a lot lately. I fish a ton of "small plastics on small jigheads" and it seems like there are a lot of Walleye rods that have an idea power/taper for that kind of fishing.

Just ordered the IMX-Pro 901SJR. Should be a couple of weeks. Thinking of 4000 reel for it. I was using a Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 7'4" M/F but it was a tad heavy for throwing 1/16oz.

I have a discontinue Loomis Bronzeback 811s and it is PERFECT for a ned rig!!! Fast enough action to pop a small jig head free from weeds but forgiving enough that you aren't overpowering the presentation itself. I tried a 782 IMX and it was a little too stiff for the 1/16oz head so look for a Loomis 1 power rod in a JWR, there is no other rod with that taper.

I fish with heavier ned rig jig heads(3/16-1/4).....so technically i guess you could call it a shakey head

I've been fishing ned rigs on the Megabass Orochi Shakyhead. 2 power rod with plenty of sensitivity to detect bottom composition and bites, but it's specced a bit higher for line and lire weight than many DS rods (5-16lbs, 1/8-1/2oz) so that I feel that works well on heavier line.

(Edit: Rereading the initial post, the Skakyhead does have quite a bit of tip & fast taper, so it might not be a rod you want to consider. But I've never had an issue with vegetation and freeing my lures. Maybe just prefrence.)

Don't overlook inshore saltwater rods for this application. I've got a St Croix Avid Inshore 7'6" ML that I like for a lot of open hook, finesse presentations. I like it enough that I just coughed up for a Daiwa Ballistic to go on it, it had a Stradic 1000 before that was/is perfectly serviceable but I wanted a larger reel without adding alot of weight.
