Do you fish a lot?

I’m out of town but my he3 cork looks better then yours and I’m pleased with my 17 Zbone. I’m traveling now or I would post photos
I have not used my HE3. I got that rod last week. It's brand new, but I did apply U40 to it. I've also applied U40 to my Avid or GLX that are in the pics for comparison, but the HE3 turned out much darker. One of the posters said the cork on the Kistlers look like petrified dung, and I agree.

This was my first Kistler purchase and don't get me wrong, I like Kistler rods, but the only knock I have on Kistler rods is the low quality cork.

HA fanboys at BBC went Ape$heet cause I ragged on the quality of the H3. My rather new (april this year) lightly used rod has the cork pitting already more than rods that are 4-5+ years old with way more use, I dont use sealer on any of them. This on top of the other subpar craftsmanship issues.

That's why i prefer other materials than cork. It worns very quicly and usually quality is shitty. Best portuquese cork costs $$$.

I looked a a number of cork handles from the Dobyns which I thought was the best cork I'd seen to the kistlers, old GLX, to NRX

a few factors come out- some cork gets darker then others with the U40. some cork appears to have more filler, and they are not the same smoothness. Clearly too some of my older rods were fished for a few years before U40 applied.

Results- the Kistler HE3, zbones are perfectly smooth with no pitting of any type. The NRX is the same but lighter in color and with less filler. The dobyns I have has about the same amount of filler as the Kistlers. The best rod I have is a 2003 era Shimano Crucial. Little filler and smooth even thought it was not U40'd until 10 years after its birth.

My HE3 and a NRX side by side

all this said, I am satisfied with my kistler cork. I would not buy or promote the rods for it. What I'd talk about is the performance of the blanks

I should have pulled the trigger on the 6'9" zbone before they sold out

I dream of 6'9 rods now but as I fish Florida they are of little use to me; but still i find myself wanting the same rod.

In some aspects, I am disappointed in my 7'10H zbone but I find myself recommending it. The negative is the balance and absolute weight vs the kistler listing. The positive is it is extremely sensitive and powerful rod that I can fish 6 hours. I bought the rod to break the mold of 7'3 rods and to get something I wanted to pitch a 1.25oz rig on all day. I found it and in that regard I recommend it.

I also have a H3 but its a spinning rod, the cork is horrible compared to all my other rods.

such a high dollar rod you would expect better components on a z-bone.

Torzite Ring with titanium-framed “tangle free” stipper guide
Flanged Torzite/Titanium tip top
Silicon Carbide Slim-rings with Stainless steel “tangle free” K-frame running guides
Fuji graphite reel seat
