Hi

I am looking for a versatile rod and narrowed down my choice between these two rods. I would like to have comments on sensitivity and power of people who have had the chance to use both. I am leaning towards the GLX because of the fulll handle.

The glx843c is super versatile, i have one tied for smallies and largies everytime i go out. dark sleepers, senkos, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, light texas rig, tubes, all work great on this rod. 1/4 to 1/2 is mostly what i use it for.

I've had the GLX 844MBR (and have used the 843) and own several Zbones. I have in fact a LMH 7' Zbone. Hmmm... the taper on the 843 is pretty awesome, but the Zbone LMH much lighter and more sensitive. I'm biased, but I'd go with that X-Ray blank. I think it can do more, better.

Yes, yes, there's the Loomis warranty vs. Kister's debate. I don't buy rods worrying about the warranty.

I would take the MBR rod for versatility. The Zbone is more of a worm and jig rod.

I have always said a guy could have a versatile 3 rod arsenal using :

MBR 842
MBR 843
MBR 844

Toss in a spinning rod and a true worm and jig rod or something for frogs and you can do about anything.

^^^ that’s the truth. Really takes all the guesswork out of rigging rods. Stay in the weight ranges of each rod and cover pretty much everything. No experience with the newer Zbones, but love my older model. Not as versatile, but great blank. Sensitivity would be pretty equal between older Zbone and new GLX. Haven’t heard much on sensitivity of the X-ray blanks. Balance I believe would be better with the GLX just based on rod weights and components. To answer your question, I would go GLX, but I’m a little biased as I love those MBR actions.

In my hands, the NRX 853 isnt as sensitive as the H3 7'1" LMH. So if sensitivity is the deciding factor, I would go with the H3. If taper is more important, then the MBR taper is more versatile and still very sensitive...but those x-ray blanks are in a different class altogether.

kistler just came out with a new helium i have one on order should be here next tuesday. its a 7' med hvy modified fast action. the rod is called the all rounder so should be pretty versatile in doing many things.

I don't own either rod you note. I own 2008 GLX 843, NRX rods, HE3 and zbones. The zbones in 2017 and 2019 should be compared to NRX in my loomis line-up not GLX. My sole HE3 I think more sensitive then my GLX 843.

The action of the blank though is important and you need references. I have a 2017 zbone in x-fast and it is too fast for braided line. I have a HE3 in the same length and power labled xfast that is wonderful action for braid. I just got a 2019 zbone in moderate and it is fast and reminds me of my 894 NRX. My initial sense is that the zbone is quite a bit more sensitive then my NRX but that is gut feel. need a week of fishing on the rod to determine and that won't happen until I go to Florida in Novemember

My advice- find someone or some post about a zbone that resonates with you in your model. What arrives at your house may not be the same specs posted on Kistler website.
