Balancing a Great Rod

Post by goldrod » Sun Sep 15, 2019 11:16 am

Is it possible to add a balancing kit to a rod?
I have impulse bought rod. Great rod with the right reel.
Unfortunately I sold that reel but I love the rod.
It will not balance with a Steez or and light reel, so I won’t to add a magtai kit or some sort of balancing system that won’t be a dud over time

Google "the Balancer for fishing rods". Not pretty, but they work great.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Depends how much weight you want to add.

Here was one I did to a megabass spin rod, with advice from Matt/Otterods.

You can use rubber chair legs with lead sinkers inside, fit over the rod butt, and taped on with black electrical tape.
I actually fish with my rods balanced like that, but you can also have a rod repair guy open up the butt and insert the balancing weight into the rod, and the reinstall the butt cap.

Not with this rod. It won’t fit
But I’ll look around

I'm having same challenge. I have 2 rods that are super but balance is marginal for a tip up rod. My chairleg trick I use on NRX won't work
