Looking for a short frog rod for medium to heavy cover
HI all,
I am currently running the Okuma TCS 7'3 heavy (1/2oz -2 oz) as my frog rod. What i have noticed is that the rod is a bit underpowered when I am fighting bigger fish or fish in heavy cover.
The ideal specs for such rod for me would be:
* Max length 7 foot
* fast/extra fast tip in order to be able to throw lighter frogs and still be able to 'walk-the-dog' them
* well balanced with a 6.5+ oz reel
* robust
Thanks for your ideas and recommendations!

Here is an idea
Never fished it. But seen a video where it’s designed as a short frog stick

THanks for your recommendation. I just do not want to give any business to this company.bbates3 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 5:33 pmhttp://store.13fishing.com/p/muse-black ... asting-rod

This is a medium heavy. I am not sure if it is the right choice for frogs in heavy cover.Sore Thumb wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 11:47 pmHow is your budget? What about a Steez Machine Gun Cast type3. 6'9"?

SUPER RAKKAI
short rod at 6'9" 3/8-1 1/2oz
The Rod your looking for. It’s a wonderful rod that I highly recommend.
But The XXX line Up, The Cover Hacking and Mat Buckner rod I've considered myself.
Maybe someone here can speak from experience on them.

The Kistler Helium3 7' HXF might possibly meet your requirements. I got it as a fairly lightweight frogging rod that could do other things decently, and so far it has lived up to that. But, it's more like F than XF, and for being rated as a Heavy rod, I expected a little heavier. That being said I'm GLAD it's not any more stout than it is. It has a good amount of backbone but it's definitely not anything close to a broomstick. I have a St. Croix Premier 7' MHF which is only a tiny bit less stout, but it weighs 1.4oz more and feels stiffer for sure. That rod is OK for frogging but I wanted a lighter rod to make it easier on my wrist.
So I think the Helium3 7' HXF would work, and is a good frog rod, but you MAY want something with even a little more backbone to rip through cover, and MAYBE a little faster action. But, it is a sweet rod that is actually pretty decent even for 5" weightless Senkos but also for 3/8oz jigs and spinnerbaits. I find it quite versatile but it's pretty good at walking frogs and ripping through thick weeds that we get here in Minnesota. And pretty darn sensitive if my couple hours with a jig are any indication. Something to consider at least!

No worries. We use it for Barramundi in heavy cover. What about the Blenheim? Next rating up. Same length but a heavy rating.freelancer27 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 8:04 amThis is a medium heavy. I use the XX Tour Versatile for Frogs/Light flippin and have had no issues. Another rod I would consider but might have a hard time locating is the F6-69XRC or the Aaron Martens "Frog Game Special" edition.

freelancer27, we usually are using frogs with either double hooks or large soft plastics with big single hooks.

I’ve been looking for a frog game special for about three months on and off
