NRX 921S MR

Post by BRONZEBACK32 » Tue Apr 02, 2019 10:48 pm

Has anyone taken a look at this rod?

I wonder if this would be a good hair jig rod, shakey head, drop shot, ned rig rod???

thoughts please.

I had high hopes for the 922, I ended up sad. It just wasn't a freshwater bass rod to me especially for bottom contact. It has considerably bigger guides than the freshwater series and the blank just felt slow and clunky the handle is very different as well. It also was more powerful than expected the 922 ( medium power) felt like a slow tapered mh bass rod. I had mine paired with an exscence 3000 and braid and ended up selling it.

I've had a similar experience with NRX inshore... they just don't measure up to the expectations of freshwater guys in most cases that I've seen.

I have the NRX 921S MR and I love it. Here in South Florida I use it for both bass and saltwater applications. I dont use hair jigs, but it does work well with unweighted senko and flukes. It does have larger guides which I like as I use braid with leader. To me the recoil guides on all of the bass NRX rods are too small and they will break at the leg if you are using a leader. IMHO, I like the 921 paired with 4K size reel to balance the extra length.

Is it just the recoil guides that are larger or all the guides?

the tip and the recoil. the others seem standard.

FWIW, I'm fishing a couple of St Croix Avid Inshore 7-6 MLF for those applications and I don't have any complaints. They seem to have a heavier middle than the regular Avids and the weight range is 1/8-1/2 where the regular Avid is 1/8-3/8.
