Shimano Expride 7’ light+ thoughts
Shimano Expride 7’ light+ thoughts
For those who fish it, what are your thoughts? Where does the rod shine? Is it more like a medium light or more like a light? I handled once in a local store and haven’t stopped thinking about why I need this rod lol! Fill me in please on your thoughts and what it excels at

I use mine for ned rigs and open water dropshot.
Re: Shimano Expride 7’ light+ thoughts
Have you ever thrown smaller tubes on it? I currently have an 822s dsr so was looking at adding the nrx 852/872 and this expride light+. Hoping it would do nicely for ned rigs mainly, smaller finesse worms with nail weights and then back up for a nice little perch rod. Have the 822 for dropshot, and the 852-872 for the most other applicationscndbasshunter wrote:I use mine for ned rigs and open water dropshot.

872 for heavier drop shot.
Re: Shimano Expride 7’ light+ thoughts
Okay thank you! I just want to make sure it’s not a one trick pony rod. I don’t need it to be super universal but wasn’t sure what else it could handle other then like a ned rig. Just love the feel of itcndbasshunter wrote:No i have not. I use my 842,852 and 902 for tubes.Matt_3479 wrote:Have you ever thrown smaller tubes on it? I have the 7' medium and personally love that rod for dropshots and shakeyheads. I think the ML would be great for smaller stream fishing smallmouth and spots and possibly fishing smaller dropshots or something, but personally would have no use for the 7' Light for bass fishing.
Re: Shimano Expride 7’ light+ thoughts
I was debating the medium but I’m keeping my eye out for the nrx 852s so didnt want to have 2 medium rods at 7’ basically. But the expride just felt so nice I wanted to add one of them to the line up. The 7’ light+ feels more like a medium light to me not so much a light.Samuel_b wrote:I have the 7' medium and personally love that rod for dropshots and shakeyheads. I've been fishing the 7' light + and use it mainly for lighter finesse techniques (1/4 and under). Very impressed with it in terms of lightness and sensitivity. I think you'll be happy with it.
Re: Shimano Expride 7’ light+ thoughts
Thank you. I’m very excited about this rod, it just felt right in the hand. It’s so increadibly light. I was handling it next too the imx pro line as they were on a massive sale, legend extremes and X’s, legend tourney, envy black and it felt more like most medium lights vs a true light. I was hesitant cause it’s labeled a light and passed on its be first time I handled it about a month ago but since couldn’t stop thinking about it. Felt better then the imx pro’s, envy blacks, and legend tourneys. I didn’t like the feel of the legend extremes but the x’s were nice and would rate them above the exprides, but for the money on those exprides they didn’t feel too bad. Can’t wait to see how they are next to my glx’s!mthao105 wrote:I've been fishing the 7' light + and use it mainly for lighter finesse techniques (1/4 and under). I'm also in the market for a light + or ml for a double duty light finesse rod for the lake and creek, that is also capable with a slip float and jigs during the crappie spawn. Im eyeing the 820 glx dsr, but am a little concerned it will be too light. This light + does sound nice
Re: Shimano Expride 7’ light+ thoughts
I don’t know much about the 820 dsr as I couldn’t find one for the life of me when shopping around so went with the 822s dsr. This light+ feels wicked. Feels like it has good power, felt comparable to most ML, but nice soft tip! I’m real excited to give it a go!
