Tank? Good? or Bad? This one not translating for me... Durable? Built like a tank? On track? Please expand on description.
Forgive me....Mine is actually a flipping stick with spiral Torzite guides and carbon fiber grip. It is very durable with an extreme amount of sensitivity to match it. I highly recommend the blank because of its balance between weight and strength. I had the same rod originally built on a K2, and it shattered on me twice. Not at the end, the middle of the blank into many, many pieces. Both were warrantied, but I gave up on Phenix and went to the Point Blank and have had ZERO issues with comparable feel while fishing. I do think the K2 was lighter, but the balance is better with the point blank.

Orochi Gen 1's... I don't recally what the seat was, but it was skinnier than the Fuji's I am used to and prefer. Kind of a glossy plasticy skeletal looking reel seet

Cheap labor outsourcing can really tank a company.
This is interesting. Because *if* Gary Dobyns is listening and cares about his company's reputation then he should want to make some fast changes like switching to Fuji or some equivalent quality guide rather than some cheap chinese knockoff's now bringing him increasing bad reviews for putting such cheap components on rods- and then such high artificially inflated prices.

A company can only buy favoritism and contrived positive reviews for so long before reality catches up to them...

I have to wonder if Falcon made this move ahead of a sellout?
My HP 746 has fuji guides and the real seat is also fuji. If I'm not mistaken, dobyns switched from kigan a few years ago.

The Orochi XX Gen 1s have standard Fuji ECS reel seats. Pretty much the gold standard for comfort.

Wasn't a Fuji... it was glossy, wavy-ish looking, and had a shorter, "sharper" trigger for lack of a better description. It was very different than my Classic GLX reel seats, and my NRX's as well. Perhap it was a different model, but it was a Megabass, and was not comfortable at all to me. I though it was an orochi but could be mistaken, it was a few year ago.

Definitely St Croix, the cheap Bass X and Mojo rods are so tip heavy and unbalanced. The more exspensive models are ok but over priced.

 Oh man oh man! Not those! Kind of funny... right now on other forums are people posting photos of their rod and reel collections and basically what they have is what this thread is naming.

One guy on another forum started an entire thread about what to do with a Dobyns rod.

I considered posting- turn it into a broom!

I have never owned a Dodyns but have always heard very mixed reviews so I stayed away from them. I am not one to spend over $200 and really like to stay below 150 when it comes to rods and always try to catch a rod on sale. I have a few Tatula rods and feel they are worth the money and also have a Fenwick Elite Tech bass and a original Castaway Skeleton and enjoy these rods as well. I know there are a lot better rods on the market but I spend all my money on reels and just can’t justify the cost when it comes to rods.

This is an interesting perspective. More money on the reels, less on the rods. I am the opposite. And the reason why is because I am a reel tech. I know a free spinning spool when I see one. And I get plenty of free spool casting from my mid-line Curado's.

I have had the more expensive reels, but I don't get one more inch of casting distance for my money with higher end reels. If my $100 curado can cast as far as a $500 reel, what do I need the $500 reel for? I don't. My curado's are tuned up and cast like a rocket.

So for me, my money is on the rods.

I'd agree with dobyns as well as 13 fishing being overrated, I do love me some St Croix rods though, I've never fished with any of their non us made rods. I really wish falcon hadn't moved overseas minus the cara, the new lowrider series feels like standard Chinese manufactured rods with nice guides.

What was the old saying/guideline - spend your money on rods, not the reel - the reel is just there to wind the line. The feel all comes from the rod.

Kinda like the tried and true adage - spend 2x as much on your scope as your rifle cost. Very few people do that anymore, although higher end scope prices have come down over the past 20 years (or, more correctly, better scope tech has reduced prices, you get more for your dollar with scopes now vs 20 years ago), while high end rifle prices have mostly been static, generally speaking.

Is that the only important aspect of a reel - casting distance? That's down towards the bottom of the list for me, as well as many others I know. Yes, obviously there is a point where per dollars spent, gains don't necessarily match up, but this is common with pretty much everything. My old man still uses nothing but cheap spinning reels. He says all that matters is the drag, as he fights with the reel all day long. All the while I'm making smooth, accurate, effortless casts. I don't think the rod is more important, I consider all parts being equal, including the line. I'm amazed when people drop 400 bucks on a rod, but refuse to pay more than 8 dollars on a spool of line. At the end of the day, we buy whatever enhances our personal experience on the water. Rod blanks are important to me, and that's why I choose custom. I can tailor tapers, actions, load characteristics, and power to exacts that work best for me, techniques, and conditions. In a sense, a reel spool is somewhat the same - braking, ease of motion, effort involved, and braking profile. I'm just rambling at this point, but I'm glad we have numerous options we do.
