Spinnerbait rod ?’s

Post by SapperTyler » Wed Mar 06, 2019 4:13 pm

Ok so I recently got a 6’10 Shimano Exage medium heavy fast action rod for spinnerbaits and short cover casting. I am wondering if any one has used this rod and can tell me if it holds up? I feel for a medium heavy it’s a lil limp and what would you guys suggest to use for shallow go or spinnerbait casting?

I picked up a megabass orochi xx spinner bait special a few years back, and I have not felt the need to replace or upgrade to a new rod yet. For a spinner bait rod it also handles square bills and some other treble hook baits nicely.

I have the Exage 7-2 MH that I use for buzzbaits and big spinnerbaits. Funny thing is, it actually handles above its ratings and, for me, it doubles as an open-water/ light cover frog rod. Thats strange regarding your rod, because most Shimano rods Ive handled over the yrs have always seemed to handle 1/2 power heavier than the ratings indicate. I had a 6-10 MH Compre and it was the same way, more powerful than the ratings. The new SLX rods I've handled felt this way, as well.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

GLX 843C MBR is what i use, love it. I sometimes use a 903C for the bigger 3/4 blades.

I use a Dobyn's 734c. It really has a good feel for a spinnerbait rod.

If you can find one get the Double X Megabass Spinnerbait rod. Have two and they are one of the best I have used. Another that I picked up and felt decent was the Shimano Curado 6'10". I beleive that one would suit you fairly well.

I think MH is a good power. I use a 7MH st.Croix LE for spinnerbaits, traps, topwater.

It's all relative as far as action and power go, but i would think that rod would be ideal. Are you tossing big colorados and feel that rod is underpowered? For typical willow/willow willow/colorado spinnerbaits and 3/8th chatterbaits you should have plenty of power in what I think of as MH/F. You may actually consider looking for a MH regular action rod if the one you're using is wearing you out.
This is the way.
