Phenix Feather Light
Anyone using the Feather Light action casting rod? Was interested in hearing some thoughts or feedback. I did some research on the series and it seems many feel they run a half power to a full power under. The 7’1 Light casting rod is rated 1/8-3/8. I was wanting to match it up to a Pixy. Mainly interested in throwing small plastics and spinners around 1/8 to 1/4 oz. Any feedback good or bad on this rod would be much appreciated. Thanks TTers!

Re: Phenix Feather Light
I haven't used the Feather series but, my Phenix K2 714 can cast 1/8oz plastics and that rod is rated as a medium heavy!!! I love the rod but, was let down that it didnt have a med-heavy backbone. Id more so call it a medium powered, moderate fast versus the med-heavy, fast its labeled as. Rod rating mean little, as companys greatly vary and even withing a company they can vary from lineup to lineup

I have one of the older Recon2 Light/Fast casting rods, also rated from 1/16oz to 3/8oz. I feel it is pretty true to it's rating, a wacky 5' senko is doable but not amazing and while it will cast a 1/16oz sinker, a less ayrodynamic lure will do poorly. A true 1/8oz (4" worm + 1/0 hook) is about the reasonable bottom end. The rod really likes the 3/16-5/16 window and casts that range like a dream. It is also on the Mod side of Fast, but it still gives good hooksets on t-rigged plastics, I just have to really make sure I dip-n-crank to get the slack out before I set. It gives good control over the fish once hooked through.

I have that rod with a pixy on it. Its a nice rod for the price, no bells or whistles but id say its similar if not a tag more sensitive than the og tatula line of rods. The light power weighs 3.0oz and it is soft but not too soft. I've casted as light as 1/16oz but its not a noodle and ive used 3/16 rattle traps with it no problem. I haven't gone up to a 1/4oz on mine but i have a very shallow spool and i didnt want to spool the reel.

I used my buddies feather and for the price, it is the pretty unbeatable. The rod is super light and sensitive.

Thanks for the reply! 1/16 oz? Good to know but I would be more than happy if it was capable to do 1/8 really well. When you casted 1/16 or even 1/8 which Pixy spool was in the reel stock or other?ss30378 wrote:

1/8oz the stock spool can handle. The spool thats in the reel is the alphas air stream custom spool. The spool can cast even lighter than 1/16 but the rod wont load with that light of a weight.

Thanks SS! Rod is due to arrive this Thursday. We have about 6 inches of snow on the ground so it will be a bit before I can use it

I wish but sadly I have not. It was an odd spring here and I have been dealing with some health issues and I have not gotten out as much as I have wanted88ms3 wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 5:42 pmAny update on how you like this rod for the applications you listed.
