Review of Daiwa AGS , Two Kistler H3 and GLX 803c

I was fishing Kingsley Lake in Starke, Florida
Water Temp was 73 degrees
Wind was 8-9Knots
The lake is an almost perfect circle and the water is clear. You can google it
The GLX was paired with a Cq50 reel and 12lbs of floro
I read somewhere that a rod this short is best suited in 15' or less. I fished it 15-40' of water
This setup was the only setup that i caught fish on. I was using a Zoom Z3 worm 1/8oz reins weight and tokar light wire finesse worm hook. I could feel everyyyything while in the 18-15' depths. I knew when I was in a grass patch and when the fish struck, the light jumped and the rod gave and applause.. I could tell when the lure actually hit the bottom and when it was still falling. Its a short stick but you dont get that impression at all. This is only my opinion in my limited experiences of bass fishing. I also fished a Riot baits little creeper 3/8 football jig in 40' of water. The rod easily "popped" the little jig out of the deep grass. I think the pro's call it stroking a jig, but its so small that i call it micro stroking. I didnt catch any fish like this but I never felt like the rod was under powered.. I also fished this setup with a 3/16 and 5/16 reins weight and tx rigged. I was the only way to get bit. Fish was school and busting the surface but I paid them no attention cause they were small.. IMHO, this is the goto rod for so much. For me I can see me using poppers and other topwater lures with it. Size appropriate of course. The setup is beautiful astetically and the good in the reel is complimented by the gold in the rod. Its balanced and just clean. I think that if i was on a drop shot bite I would power shot with this setup.. I am more than pleased with it.

If you have read any of my post about skipping you know its something I really want to learn to do.. If you are like me and suck at it for no other reason other than I suck at skipping THIS is the rod for you. I had an Antares AR that just got off a member here. Reel was tuned by Ian and has a 34mm yumeya magnesium spool with a 4 pin brake system. I was using 14lb test sunline floro and Greenfish Itty bitty Jig with Raid battle bug creature bait ( side note.. my new favorite lure). Anyhow I was able to skip without even thinking about it.. The only time it sucked was when I got cocky and tried to got through the dock crevices only to hit a pole. I have to be honest, I wasn't sure of what to expect with the reel but the combo balances nicely and the rod lends itself to a more multi purpose platform. NO fish caught today.

It was hard fishing out there. I long lined a wacky rig with not one bite.. Ive posted before about this combo, the Daiwa SS SV with 7.9 gears, Ian tuned, MB honeycomb spool , upgraded bearings, etc. To me this rod is lifeless until you get bit. Then it comes to life. It has some back bone but it is not like the GLX 803c. The action of this rod has always been hard for me to describe. No fish caught on this stick. I long ago found that the spool doesn't handle floro as well as I'd like, so i went to floro clear and never looked back.
Lastly the Kistler Med
its paired with a curado 50E and KTF spool with upgraded gears and drag of course,
This is my dropshot casting set up and shaky head. I can't say enough GOOD things about the H3 line up. Ascetically they won't win a beauty contest unless the judge appreciates the minimalist approach.
It was hard fishing but hopefully if you were on the fence about any rod or reel here, something I said may help you make up your mind. These aren't really expensive sticks or reels but they pair well and balance out. I gained a ton of confidence today skipping under docks.. but i knew it would be tough when the wacky rig didn't get bit. The wind didn't allow me to stay on a spot and just drop it on them. Maybe next time.
