anybody messed with the ml carbonlite casting rods? i'm wanting to move away from spinning gear for shakeyheads, and thought this may be a good option

Junk. Very soft and moderate in taper with little back bone. You'll be be served by a Kuying Topcaster for a cheap ML casting rod. The Zodias ML BFS is good too in the $200 range. The Majorcraft Corrza is an option in both ML and L if you want to try and cast baits you would normally cast on a ML spinning rod. A lot of your ML casting rods are going to be stiffs than ML spinning rods so a drop down to an L BFS is something to consider.
