Impressive new Lurestar Rod, Wooden Handle
So I bought this rod on a lark from AliExpress last week during their sale for like $110 shipped.

It looked pretty sweet in the pictures and unique so I figured why not. It came in today and it looks twice as nice in person. I'm pretty much blown away. It is really long at 8'6" but the balance and overall weight is actually pretty decent. Fit and finish is as good as I've seen. Fuji Alconite K guides and beautiful wood on the handle and reel seat. The wooden foregrip nub is only OK compared to the other wood. The blank is sanded to the first guide then unsanded the rest of the way. Nice taper and sensitivity using the tap on the floor test. More of an Inshore ML than a Freshwater ML power I suspect. The purple accents on the reelseat match my Brenious nicely, so I think it has found a new home.
I really wish I could find a M-MH in the 7'-7'6" range.
There seem to be some similar rods in the shortly UL range if anyone is interested.

You think? I have a spare chair bumper I might cover it with in that case. The handle on mine has a lot of marbling.SSS wrote:looks slick but that rod butt will be destroyed in no time

Looks like the images only worked for me. I guess DropBox changed their settings. I can't seem to get the images in a format that can be uploaded either without being too large. Maybe this formatting will work on dropbox...

Some of those Aliexpress rods have excellent build quality for the money. After owning a few it makes a lot of the rods sold on the USDM with unspecified, blank material, guide frames, guides and reels seats ect look like overpriced crap. I can never look at a Veritas again and see a $100 rod. The exact same Veritas in 2pc for Asian markets is like $30 all day long.

Yeah. Knowing that BPS/Cabelas pays for their rods, I never feel the slightest bit of guilt returning a broken one for a free replacement.LowRange wrote:Some of those Aliexpress rods have excellent build quality for the money. I can't seem to find this same rod design in a 7'ish model anywhere. Very frustrating. I hope to get to actually take it out this weekend.
