Best Jig Rod for $200

Post by baseball_fish » Mon Aug 06, 2018 9:18 pm

Looking to dive headfirst into a dedicated jig rod. Already have a curado k 7.4 to go with it and Ill use exclusively 50# braid to mono leader. What is the best all around jig rod for $200+/-? I prefer predominately casting/pitching jigs 3/8 oz to ~3/4 oz.

Welcome =D> Check with the Tackle Trap, they may have a MB XX rod available. They were on sale. The best jig rod is the one you feel comfy with.

Depending on where you live, the cover and, your hookset, the Tour Versatile and the Jig and Worm Orochi XX rods may be a bit too much with braid. I live in Northern Michigan and I feel my TV may be a bit too much. I haven't used it too much for jigs but, when I used it with FC, it felt better because there was a little more give with the stretch of FC.

I prefer a longer jig rod. I use a 7'6" rod. I get a better hookset in deep water. I use FC though. Braid will give you a better hookset so, the length isn't as much a factor with your hookset.

Everyone has their own preferences for each technique. Nowhere else will prove that more true than Tackletour forums.

The two "best" (most sensitive imo) that I have fished are: (1) Shimano Expride, (2) St. Croix - LTB. If I were looking in that range, I would also look at a Kistler KLX or helium.

im with bigguy I have rods throughout the price spectrum with some conquest, nrx, us destroyer, kistler z bone 2019s in the higher bracket but the shimano x pride 2017 models and kistler heliums hold their own no doubt throwing jigs. I find ill pick up the exprides and helium over the higher end combos from time to time. The 7'3 hvy helium is a great pitching rod/ football jig rod. I love the expride 7'2 med hvy as a 3/8 oz jig rod especially for skipping jigs which it has a great action for. both rods have really good sensitivity especially for the price. They are both over the 200ish range a bit but ttt could get you the expride in a good price range they have some demos on the site now for 220ish i think .

Thanks! At $199 shipped, the first generation Megabass XX F6.5-70XX Jig and Worm is a great buy and one of the best jig rods at that price point. The Zodias rods are really nice at that $199 MSRP as well.

I recommend the gen 1 Orochi XX Jig and worm. It's not the lightest rod, but it's still plenty sensitive and has power to spare. Lots of people don't like this rod, but it's underrated in my opinion.

The Zodias I've had in the past were plenty nice and the Curado rods seem decent, though I only tried one out for a few casts.

I know its not exactly 200 bones, but the Dobyns Champion XP 764 is a stud, man. its light weight and has a ton of stopping power. Perfect for those weights of jigs you want to throw. I have mine paired with a Chronarch 151. She's a tank dude!

Kistler HE3 should get a look. sensitivity and action wise competes with any rod I've fished at any price. ascetically may or may not suite.

I have also been impressed with Tiapan Rods J-Will series rods. The 7'7" and the 7'4". Expride and Kistler Helium are up there also.

Their's alot of new rods and manufactures in the $200 prices range . If I had to recommend just one that I use it would be a dobyns 735 . Great balance in hand , decent sensitivity and awesome action for casting and pitching in that weight range 3\8 to 3\4 oz. jigs and Trigs ! Also great for frogs and mid size swim baits !

Do yourself a favor and check out the Phenix Feather 7’3” XH. Awesome jig rod and very light and comfortable.

Lots of great options in this thread. You can also check out Powell, the Endurance line has a many options on their site and tackle warehouse (with breakdown on techniques/lure choices) and they are $150 or less. The rods are also sub 4oz if you want something light weight.
