What do you guys use this rod for? I’ve had the rod for over a year and think it’s amazing, so light, sensitive, and the action is great. However, I find myself never knowing what to throw on it. It’s too light for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, most swimbaits. The action seems perfect for a jerkbait but I don’t like it for that because of the length. It’s a good senko rod but I’d rather throw those on a spinning rod. The only thing I seem to really like it for is small squarbills and the 90 size whopper plopper which I don’t do either of those often. I guess I’m looking for an excuse not to sell it because I know I’ll regret it.

Any suggestions??

First off, welcome to the forum. Have you tried fishing a weightless fluke with it? I have fished the old custom GLX 842 and it worked great. I could see a lighter, more sensitive rod being even better. One disclaimer, though-I use braid almost exclusively, sometimes with a leader, sometimes without.

One of my favorite rods, I use mine for spybaits most often.

Is there much difference in action between the new 842c and the old 782c?

I recently picked up an old model mbr782 GLX and it is amazing for light t-rigged worms/heavy Neko rigs. I am also going to use it for small paddle tails in open water. I like a faster rod for jerkbaits which is what most people seem to like it for, but so far it seems to work well for smaller shallow cranks.

Thanks guys. I will have to try a fluke next time. I’m somewhat new to bass fishing so I tend to steer more towards spinning gear for weightless presentations but am willing to try new things. I started with 12lb fluro on the rod, switched to 10lb mono for awhile and now finally put 30lb braid on it. Maybe the braid will make it more versatile for me.

Put the fluoro back on and run 1/8-1/4 light wire swim jigs.

That's what I'd do. Or 4-4.5" "mag Ned" rigs.

I run 15lb braid on mine, I have a Metanium 13 on my 842

Give a light t-tig a try before you give up on the rod. Get a soft 6" worm like a Producto or a Fat Robo, rig it with a thin-wire 2/0 hook and like an 1/8oz sinker. If it's anything like the old style GLXs then I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
