Screwed up with some Cork Renew - help!
Hi guys,
I got some Kelly’s Cork Renew in the box yesterday that I wanted to use to protect the cork on some of my rods. So I started and put it on all my cork rods yesterday evening.
When I woke up this morning and I touched the dried end product I was a bit shocked. Yes, the cork is now protected like crazy but it is also slippery like a MOTHAFU*()#!. As soon is there is some moisture, liquid on the rod becomes almost ungrabable.
What can I do? I was planning anyways to experience a bit with something like a Winn Grips Superior Rod Wrap Contour, since I have larger hands and most rods are a bit too thin for me in the grip area.
Other option would be to rough the surface up again with some sand paper.
Lesson learned for sure on this...
Thanks for your help!

Take some 800 grit sandpaper to remove the crap, take denatured alcohol and wipe the cork down. Buy some U40 cork seal and do it right.
Rods & Reels Excite me!

yeah, this will hurt unfortunately. Especially because I put it on my new Spinnerbait Special (of course purchased from the Tackle Trap ) .bronzefly wrote: That's terrible! Experience and knowledge go a long way for sure

Instead of running sand paper over it and scratching it all up, just run one of those 3M scotch pads over the finish to the desired finish.

It could have been worse. I saw a rod with polyurethane applied to the cork Hope you get it fixed up.
