MegabassOrochi Diablo Uses

Post by Bassnut1 » Tue Jan 16, 2018 8:23 am

Just picked up two Orochi's. What are the best uses for the Diablo Spec R F5 72. Can this be used for a frog rod around light grass?
I also got a spinnerbait special, want to use for Chatterbaits, topwater or jerkbaits. What do you Megabass guys think. Thanks

The Diablo Spec R is a super versatile stick and one of my favorites. I most often use it for swim jigs up to 1/2 oz plus trailer and just love it for that. But it can also throw spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, topwater, trigs up to 3/8oz as well as jigs up to 3/8oz, and even lipless cranks.

Spinnerbait Special also very versatile, love it for 3/8oz + squarebills in cover and heavy rocky terrain, spinnerbaits, topwater, lipless.

Try a little of everything on them and see what you like.

Very versitile stick. I use mine with swim jigs, chatters, spinner Baits, t rigs, buzz Baits, and jigs. Not much this rod can’t do under 5/8 oz

I believe Cal has used the Diablo Spec R for frogs with good results

DSR is a great rod. i like it mostly for single hook moving baits around 1/2oz, lipless and "moving" top water as opposed to walking. loads up and casts the small whopper plopper a mile.

ive never fished a frog with the rod but i dont think it would lack in power when fishing them in light grass.

I just got one too with the sale but it's very very cold here now and all iced up so I can't wait to use it come Spring. How will this rod do with T-rigged worms as well as jigs up to 1/2oz. or so? I plan on adding an SV103 to mine or something with the TD-Z/OG Zillion platform. Thanks for the help and best wishes on the water!

Will the dsr work for squarebills around cover or is it too stiff?

I think as long as you’re using a little bigger squarebill (over 3/8 oz)then it should work just fine, just use the right line and adjust your drag. I have used mine ripping lipless and boated several fish with no trouble. And I use my Spinnerbait Special for squarebills as you describe with no problem.

Like stated, it would overpower 1.5 size cranks. If I was targeting cover with cranks I would choose the spinnerbait special over the diablo.

You can use it with heavier square bills, but it also makes a really good Swimbait rod small types think Keitech.
