black friday rod- catches fish already
black friday rod- catches fish already
One thing I dislike about holiday sales is that ponds are frozen or near frozen and I don't land a fish on it until April. Well, my Dobyns 765 cb rod showed up today and 45 minutes later just testing out the rod with a crankbait what should appear.
This is my first dobyns rod that I've owned. Seems good so far. kept this 4lb ish fish buttoned up nicely. Balance of the rod is a bit better then expected with a 9.5inch grip on a 7'6 rod. Sensitivity seems decent. I fish braid mostly so I'm not used to judging sensitivity of a rod with mono installed but that is all I had available to me today quickly.

Congrats and nice fish, that first fish on a new stick is always a good feeling.
But your reel has the handle on the wrong side

Looks like it was the right choice in rod for you. Congrats on the 4lber.

Thanks, I hope the weather here holds and I can get a reel with braid on this rod over the weekend and test the sensitivity of the rod. Bought this thing mostly based on the TT Editors Choice award from 2015. I'm not blown away yet but not disappointed either and I'm a rod snob. So far I've thrown a 1/2oz RT, a DD22, a finesse spinnerbait and the speed trap I caught that bass on. The rod handles that range of lure weights with near optimal excellence. When I pop the trap up off the bottom I can feel the vibration clearly even on mono. Just need to test it with braid and then get on a big school of them on an Okeechobee flat or weedy area and see if it does the job I bought it for.
at the TT listed weight of 5.7 this is the heaviest rod I own but somehow does not feel heavy.
