Re: Megabass Orochi XX... What’s next for the USDM??

Finally, the time has arrived! Thanks for sharing all of the goods Mark and Gary!

Based on the cosmetics, I’m surprised by how closely they resemble the XXX series. Same goes for blank material usage. However, to say these sticks are a rebadged JDM series is probably not giving MB enough credit. It’s quite possible MB took what they learned from the XXX blanks and used that in conjunction with what they already knew from the original XX series. I’ll probably have to get the Perfect Pitch, because if it’s truly the next logical step from the original series I will be very impressed.

But, hey, if this new iteration doesn’t move you, just buy a Destroyer USA.

I'll pass. :talk hand:
Please see the added information added to the post above. Hopefully it answers a few more questions. As I stated earlier these rods have some differences and are not simply rebadged XXX rods. If you still feel you need to pass on them then we understand and hope that over time you might take a closer look at them. Best wishes.

Very well put in a lot simpler terms than I used. Thank you.

So the reel seat is identical to the xxx? I don't see a photo of the trigger on MB website

Looks like about a 50/50 split on love/hate. I missed out on a PP last time and have considered waiting now for this new ones. Seems like the max lure weight has changed? Not sure if this makes it worthy of what I was wanting it for now. I was hoping to have a beefy utility stick... something for frogs, bigger jigs, some top water hardbaits and swim baits.

Hoping the feel will be just as good or better than the prior Orichi XX rods

Probably going to wait for customer reviews to surface before getting one. We still have hardwater here and the rod will sit for months anyway

Different color and different blank composition. XX has full cork while XXX does not.

As I stated it resembles the XXX on purpose. The best thing to point to is the Destroyer family. The JDM and USDM versions share material and components as well but both are highly thought of. They hav e visual similarities. The XX and XXX are both in the Orochi family. One could argue that the XX now has common components with the Destroyer line. All improvements were made without affecting the price as well.

I can definitely see some cosmetic similarities to the xxx, but since I like the look of the xxx I don't mind that at all. I'm not going to form any opinions until the rods are in people's (my) hands, but I can see where the skeptics are coming from.

As far as the reel seat goes, it was pretty obvious this change was coming since it's being used on all the newer MB stuff it seams. Having fished the FMJ and xxx rattle viper for a little while now, I can say I really do like the new seat. I sometimes hold my rods a little wonky and this seat fits me well. I'm curious though, is there any flake in the new xx seat? Though purely cosmetic, I really liked this feature in the original xx line.

Also, did I see a pic of hook keeper on these new rods? That surprised me

Oh, and now that the new xx series has been debuted, what's replacing the black jungle rods???

Appreciate you keeping an open mind. I like hearing both sides of the opinions. I think some that are skeptical will come around after seeing them in person. Others may not and that is perfectly fine as well. No hard feelings there in any form.
The spinning models will have hook keepers but not the casting models. No flake in seat.

I like how they look, the xxx I had briefly was a gorgeous rod, with an incredible blank. The problem is the reel seat trigger...as I and a few others have posted, they are literally painful to use.

Are there any aftermarket solutions for people who hate that short sharp trigger? I've tried the rubber trigger grips...it makes the rod feel mushy.

The handles design is still the same though. Same shape with an accent ring splitting it up into two parts. It’s just been changed to cork now. Changing the color of th graphic isn’t really doing much to separate the two series. I understand you represent the company and will stand behind them 110%. I’m not saying it’s a bad rod by any means. If it wasn’t for the reel seat I’d buy one to test out for myself. However, as you can see from this thread there are a lot of people who were let down by these rods. If you’re going to release a new series of rod you shouldn’t make it look almost identical to another series. Maybe that was their plan but we the people were expecting something different.

If the xxx never came out everybody would be all over these like flies on $**+! The xxx are decent rods and if the new xx rods fish better then the originals dressed up like a xxx then I believe they will be a hit!!!
