Wish they made a 741 casting rod. Would be nice.
What reel were you thinking? I was looking at the rod also.

I use both, 741 & 742 HP spinning rods. My primary baits for those two rods are: dropshot/neko's for the 741, and spy baits, shaky heads, 4" weightless senkos, 3/8 dropshots for the 742.

Is the 741 a true light or is it about a half power stronger?stykbowslim wrote:I use both, 741 & 742 HP spinning rods. My primary baits for those two rods are: dropshot/neko's for the 741, and spy baits, shaky heads, 4" weightless senkos, 3/8 dropshots for the 742.
I have heard the 742 is a bit stronger then a actual medium light compared to a 702.

They seemed okay, they called me today.godshippy wrote:Just ask Richard? Actually...I wonder if they're ok cause of the fires...I heard Yuba was being evacuated
I ended up going with the 842
Re: Dobyns 741
I would say that the DX742 fishes just barely stronger than a 'regular' 702. e.g. Champion or Sierra 702SF. Has the same tip but as you fight a fish, the extra length makes the fish work harder.BRONZEBACK32 wrote:

The DX702 is a 1/2 power lighter than the other 2 power rods. If you compared the DX702, to the other Dobyns (Champion/Sierra/etc) 2 power, it will fish less powerfully. Notice that the Extreme series rods are actually have Finesse as part of the model name for the DX 701SF Finesse, DX 702SF Finesse and DX702C Finesse.

Re: Dobyns 741
Got the 742 today and I think it will work excellent for ned rigs.
I had a extra Shimano stradic FJ 3000 laying around so for now that is what I will use, this shimano is a little heavier then
what I'm used to (Vanquish-Exsence) but actually balances the rod pretty damn good.
I noticed with the reel seat that once you have a reel on it and tighten it down, it leaves a bit of a gap above the
threading on the blank, almost like it does not tighten down as far as it should....
best way to put it, its like the reels seat is to long for the rod, its fine and does go on tight but looks kinda weird
