852c By any other name?

Post by goldrod » Wed Sep 06, 2017 8:55 pm

What rod is comparable to a GLX 852c ? I went to the store to day and I like the action of the rod and the back bone..I even by chance had a reel to attach to the rod to see how well it balanced. I was amazed at how much i really liked this stick..and in my notes it was one of the rods i wanted to get buy never did.. I don't know what i was thinking about.I am still trying to decipher my writing

I got only 1 NRX 852.

It's a versatile rod. Jerkbaits, topwater, worms, small jigs...whatever. It's definitely a rod that could be the only one you bring with you, at least up north.

Yes. Just yes. Buy the NRX over the GLX if you can. Its incredible, its hands down my most used rod

you guys must fish a lot of open water with that 852.

I struggle to find use for mine, outside of open water Lake Erie smallie fishing....

same here. not much use for any medium powered rod. In the NRX line, I tend to like the 3 power even for finesse jigs and worms in open water. If I was fishing jerkbaits, blades, etc then I would not see the point of any NRX rod.

Curious about your reel and line.

I have one and I want to use it as best I can.

Granted I live in northern Michigan so, depending on where you live, you may need to use bigger line.

I'm running 10lb Sniper on a Steez SV TW 7.1. Not ideal lone for top water but, it works in a jam.

Thanks. I live in Maryland, and fish places like the Potomac with grass. I also finesse fish near the grass, or in clear areas. I am planning on using it for lures like weightless Senkos, 1/8 jig heads and finesse worms, etc. Prefer to use 10 lb F/C.

ya, the rod will work under those conditions....

our bass fishing up here is 30lbs braid or 50lbs braid with 20lbs flouro leads.....

unless you are open water smallie fishing.

it sure is a sensitive rod.....

When I'm fishing on one of the rivers for smallies, my nrx 852c/alphas sv is my main combo. I don't use spinning gear except for drop shots so the 852 does everything spinning gear related. When I'm on weedy lakes, it doesn't get used much. I'm on rivers a lot though.

I'm the opposite.

I much prefer spinning tackle....although I own more BC gear.

I think my 802 spinning NRX gets more overall use then the 852c.

my 804xmr spinning NRX rod is my most used rod in my collection.
