not sure what you want this rod for but the 110 special has a short handle (like an old BCR or 6'6" MBR) and is like a 7ft rod above the reel seat and pretty well balanced IMO with even a lightish reel like a Core or Curado 71. I like it for 1/2oz walking topwater (i like a little more tip for lighter walking baits), squarebills and shallow cranks, jerkbaits, small single hook moving baits (paddletails on thin wire jigheads, small spinnerbaits etc).

ive only caught fish on the topwater and paddletail so far but the taper has not failed me for about 8 treble fish.

It sounds like I should be looking at the CNQ 842C if I want to upgrade or the 853c GLX if I want a more lateral move. You should ask ALF if that's the legit price, then talk to the guys at The Tackle Trap. I got mine from there and service is top notch. Fast shipping and the rod is packed great.

I bought the 783c to be a do-all rod for bank fishing. Mostly it gets used for 3/8 spinnerbaits, 1/2 Lipless, 1.5 squarebills, 5' senko-class weightless plastics, 10" Culprits w/ 3/16oz weight, and 1/4oz jigs/swimjigs. So almost the full spectrum of lures. I really like the rod's power/taper, but at least once or twice per trip the long handle pokes me in the gut and I make a little frown. I held the CNQ 843c in a store and really liked how it felt and the handle length was more proportional to the rod. I assume the CNQ 842c is about the same weight/balance as a CNQ 3 power, so if that rod is closer to a 3 power GLX then it sounds like what I am looking for.

I will do that, I didn't realize there was a "secret" discount on the Loomis stuff. I have been buying my loomis rods from ALF due to the warranty and my MB stuff from TTT for the same reason. Right now the GLX/Destroyer is about my comfort level in terms of price/value, but I really like both the MBR taper and full cork handles, so the Conquest line is always on my mind.

Ordered my second conquest , a 903c. Thinking that this will make a good addition to my early GLX MBR843 and my 2016 GLX MBR843. I am a real fan of the MBR 3 power rods, but will probably end up with a 904c also as I am light in the heavier jig rod catagory! Bronzefly is costing me alot of $$

For somebody who fished CNQ 842c and CNQ 843c, how would you estimate real lure test for both rods?

842c 7-18g
is it really just 3g difference in lure weight separates both?


By the way, here is what Shimano Japan recommends (red circle - excellent, white - good, triangle - somehow works).

I think the 2 and the 3 are both rated a tad lower than need be.

Conquest 903 and 904 do feel litter tip heavier when comparing 843 and 844 side by side.

But to be honest, conquest 904 and 905 have already felt more balanced comparing with NRX 894 and 895.

But I guess JDM will love conquest 842 best.

How does the Conquest 903 compare to the NRX 893?

I know the 893 is one of the most well loved rods in the NRX lineup- could the conquest 903 be a suitable replacement?

I have both and the 903 will be more versatile and powerful. I was always looking at the 893 for 1/4-3/8 but i always found it underpowered and too fast for many techniques. The 903 should be a great addition to my lineup.

Just FYI, 903 is around 10g heavier than 893. But I can't feel much difference from balance point of view.

Will be fine with the 843. It has always been known as an excellent 1/2oz spinnerbait rod, and those 1/2oz spinnerbaits always weigh more than that. I know some members like much heavier rods than needed, so if you usually like more power, then the 844 would work, but it's just to powerful IMO.

Not sure if I missed it, but have any comments be made comparing the CNQ 844c and NRX 854c? Is the CNQ 843c closer to NRX 854c in terms of power? Thanks!

Have not even put line on the Bantam yet. Hope to get these bad boys on the water soon
