Drop shot
Does anyone drop shot with a baitcaster?
What rod do you use?
I have a GLX 842 MBR that I was thinking would work pretty well...
I also have a NRX 852 in spinning and casting but the NRX feels to stiff towards the tip vs the GLX.
What's weird is the 842 is rated higher 1/4-5/8 NRX 1/8-3/8

Re: Drop shot
I use a Kistler Helium 3 Medium-Light rated 1/16-3/8 paired with a Daiwa Alphas Air. I love it for drop shotting 3/16 ounce or 1/4 weight with a Jackall cross tail shad.
Any fast action rod rated 1/8-3/8 should be fine unless you plan on using some big boy weights. One plus over a spinning rod for drop shotting is line twist seems more manageable.

Re: Drop shot
The NRX has an Extra fast tip. GLX 842 MBR has a fast tip. Much slower than the NRX. It's going to feel less stiff being it's a slower loading tip.
I run all my finesse, including drop shot, on a GLX JWR 852 casting rod. I like the faster tip but I prefer the look of the MBR handle.
Super light drop shot or around docks, I generally switch to my spinning Rig.

Re: Drop shot
Been using Phase 3 Eiger Northwall for DS ....nice.
Re: Drop shot
In the occasional event that I use a baitcaster setup for dropshotting, I have a megabass F3-69X7 super eiger. That rod is insane for any finesse application and works very well for DS.

Re: Drop shot
I have 2 casting rods that I drop shot with depending on structure/technique.
For more open water casting, I use a Megabass Destroyer X7 F3-69 Super Eiger.
For pitching around cover like wood or hard grass lines, I use a Megabass Orochi XX F5-75 Extreme Mission Type F

Re: Drop shot
Sadly I closed the rod locker on my Super Eiger so the Phase 3 ENW will have to do for now.
Re: Drop shot
The baitcaster becomes a better choice when fishing heavy cover horizontally with bigger worms. The spinning setups really have an advantage when fishing vertically because its easier to open a bail than feather down a casting spool.
The 2 powered NRX or GLX rods are a good choice. I've fished with a lot of pros in the West that only use a baitcaster for drop shotting.
My home lake has come up over 100 feet over the last year and there is a lot of bushes and small trees that require the angler to move the fish out of the cover quickly, or pay the price. I also like to throw a bigger 6'' Roboworm if I can get away with it. I step it up from spinning to a to a 7' medium Point Blank and a Steez SV103XS baitcaster with 8lb. fluoro. It definitely on the heavy side of finesse, but I can hit the myriad of shallow bushes more quickly and accurately with a high speed (8.1) baitcaster. I'm not leaving the bait on the bottom very long before I real it in to make another cast. My rod is close in power to a 2 powered Loomis. I fish a shorter rod if I am fishing vertically.

Re: Drop shot
i have both the 842 glx and 852 nrx and the 842 would work nicer for 1/16-3/8 max in open water. Anything from 1/4 - 1/2 with cover the 852c would work much nicer.

Re: Drop shot
I use a Dobyns Champ Extreme 742HP with a Pixzilla. The heaviest I throw is 1/4oz and it works great. I wish Dobyns would make a 741 casting rod. That would be perfect.

Older MB Evoluzion Expada 6'3" paired with a stock OG Aldebaran BFS XG with 6lb P-line Floroclear.
Hyuga 2 piece 6'4" paired Chronarch 51e with a Shallow Honeycomb spool by Avail with 4lb P-line cxx mono.
16' Destroyer Hien paired '09 Aldebaran Shallow Honeycomb spool by Avail with 8lb Sniper florocarbon.
X4 Super Mirage paired with a stock Brenious with 10lb Power Pro.
All the above have been super fun to fish but generally those four are the ones I keep in regular rotation. I use them for various other fishing techniques as well. In gact top to bottom is how they are currently rigged: 1/4oz swim jig with keitech swing impact, Ima Flit, 1/4oz DS weight, 2/0 finesse hook with Dream Shot go to DS at the moment, 3/8oz tungsten barrel weight, 10lb P-Line cxx mono, 2/0 ewg, zoom lizard for CRRing. The way I have them lined up and set up I know I can always use them for drop-shot when the fishing gets tough. Depending on the situation I can use those as drop shot rigs with various weight/hook/lure combos. Not to mention the other various rods I use for heavier drop-shotting, power shot, Bubba Shot whatever the phrase of the day is now for it
