200 to spend on one rod.
I use to have a bunch of rods and JDM tackle but at one time had to sell them all. I been away from fishing for a couple years but have been back into it. I have $200.00 I can spend for now on a rod. I cant afford any super high end rods again right now. This will be the only rod I fish with and I am an offshore and sometimes dock angler so long casts are very important. So the rod must be at least 6'10" - 7'ish. Also 80% of my fishing is Topwater fishing while the other 20% is Fat Ikas, Flukes, Senkos, Crankbaits, and Jerkbaits. I use to own the original Megabass Elseil which I considered a good all around rod if this helps.
That all being said what are your suggestions?
It will house a JDM Daiwa Steez 103HL.

In the $200 range, check out the Shimano Zodias and St. Croix Avid rods. Or if you can find a sale somewhere, a Dobyns Champion.

Options are limitless. Choose a rod that utilizes the particular components you prefer, and has a universal multi talented blank. Hammer rods come to mind at 1st thought. Good quality and bang for buck, plus a universal design.

I second the hammer rod recommendation. I don't have one but they get great reviews here and the tapers are supposed to be super versatile.

Would you take the Hammer over the Megabass Levante rods?
Re: 200 to spend on one rod.
You could look at the jdm used market for some nice deals on MC MB . But there is also a lot of pretty good rods to be found here in the 100-200 range.

I find my Tatula 711MHRB to be incredibly versatile, especially when used with braid. Bet you could find the Zillion version in your price range and be happy.
This is the way.

Yes I would. I have fished Hammer Rods extensively, as well as many series of Megabass rods. I would absolutely take a comparable Hammer Rod over a Levante in terms of pure performance. The Tackle Trap is a Hammer Rods dealer and has been for years. Our staff have expert knowledge on their entire line up and would be happy to help you pick the one that best suits your needs. Call the shop at 256 281 6160 M-F 7am to 5pm. In my opinion, they are among the best sub $200 rods on the market. TTT even has a custom limited line with longer handles and a full rear grip. I'd suggest the 7'MH in your case, it will pair nicely with your Steez.DetroitBassN wrote:Would you take the Hammer over the Megabass Levante rods?

You should also look at the Phenix Bass Recon Elite rods as those come in around your budget as well.

Hammer Rods are a great bang for your buck. I have a few and have a hard time putting them down. They are very versatile rods.

I would look at the ALX Zolo B series. They can be had for around $200 during sales.
