Re: 853c Loomis in GLX or NRX
I have the 853C glx (the 2016 one). I have it paired with an Aldebaran, balances nicely with that reel. I use it for a lot of stuff, 1/4oz Texas rigs, heavier shaky heads, I use it quite a bit for 1/4 oz football jigs, and all of my sight fishing is also done with that rod. Ive got a buddy with an 853c nrx also paired with an Aldebaran and have fished the combos back to back. And honestly, I don't really know where I stand on that model NRX. The NRX is a little bit lighter and a little bit more sensitive. But just a little bit, so I'm not sure those benefits justify the difference in price.

I agree with you totally... I find the GLX to be just as good as the GREEN NRX.. i want to believe that the blue NRX are more sensitive due to the blank not being painted.
Do you think you can lunch a wacky rig with that setup comfortably and confidently?
What size line are you using? and Thanks for the reply..

I don't have the 853, but I do have the 852 and use it for Finesse. I think the 853 would handle a 4" or larger wacky rig. I fish them on a Dobyns 733 Champion at times and it will launch them with ease using my Aldebaran 09 MG7 and 10# Hybrid.goldrod wrote:

I have 30# maxcuatro with a 14# floro leader on my 853. And yes, I wacky rig 5" senkos on that combo all the time, I can cast wacky rigged senkos pretty far with that combo.goldrod wrote:fishes wrote:I have the 853C glx (the 2016 one). I have a 853c NRX blue and and I considering selling it and getting one the new GLX's. I have two of GLX spinning rods. Does anyone have experience with the new (2017) GLX rods and also he NRX. I know the balance is better on the GLX. This is my setup for fishing jigs and worms. I wonder how close in sensitivity the new GLX is to the NRX blue.
Re: 853c Loomis in GLX or NRX
I went the GLX route due to ergonomics.
I wasn't a fan of the recoil guides, split reel seat and handle. Not to mention the locking foregrip that had its issues. The NRX is arguably the most sensitive rod on the market, but it had its flaws with me.
The GLX was plenty sensitive and the ergos was quite comfortable.

I have my 853c nrx paired with a metanium mgl. I use mine exclusively for jigs 3/16 oz- 3/8oz jigs and the occasional texas rig. For me personally holding the rod is very comfortable. The sensitivity is insane, I can feel every bit of structure in the lake and rarely miss fish due to soft hits. The 853c is extremely versatile when it comes to soft plastics, it can handle anything from weightless senkos to shaky heads. The versatility of the 853c is the reason it became my first nrx. highly recommended as a do all plastics and jig rod.

I have the GLX 853c (2017) paired up with a met 13. Excellent combo with great balance, sensitivity and power. So far, i've used 15-17# fluoro to pitch soft plastics with 1/4 to 3/8oz weights to timber and shoreline cover.
The new GLX is comfortable to fish... i've never been a fan of the reel seat configuration on the NRX or any rods that use a similar split seat.

Re: 853c Loomis in GLX or NRX
I have the NRX 843 and its an amazing rod, I have mine with a Shimano conquest 101hg, I use mine for a little of everything.
Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, small swimbaits, small jerkbaits, I have used it for 5" weightless senkos and it has plenty of power.
I have used my 852 NRX with 5" weightless senkos without any problems.
I also have a 842 GLX 2017 and its also amazing, I usually use it most for my small jerkbaits, spybaits and topswater.
Honestly out of the 2017 GLX and NRX I can't tell the difference in sensitivity, I like the look of the NRX a bit more but
I love the guides and full grip on the GLX.

I have the flipping model with a Z2020sh on it
and soon I will be on a flip Off between it and my other flipping Rod's

No longer own any NRX casting but loving my new GLX 844mbr and 892c. I feel no remorse letting go my NRX and hope to be adding a GLX 843mbr. I will say I did not like the blank on the GLX 893c.
