Na man. Pass on that. I don't even know what those guides are on it. And a split grip handle is snaggy for tip down/ walking the dog/jerkbait applications.

This is the rod I was going to recommend before I clicked on that kistler. Turns out it's the exact same price(actually cheaper with tackletour forum member discount thru tackletrap).

That rod is money for topwater, jerkbaits and shallow cranks. It's a proven winner.
If something happened to my beloved vintage topwater rods, that rod would be in the top 3 rods of what I would replace it with, reguardless of price.

Also worth taking a hard look at is the new jdm rattleviper. I haven't held it personally so I can't say for sure, but it sure fits the bill on paper. $249 +tackletour forum member discount.

cork crucial 6'8" is what you will love has the backbone to cover what your asking it to do and it does both quite well.
you can search and find them sometimes at a great price but must people don't want to part with that line up.

Oh ok. Thats funny, as my cousin have that exact rod too. I loved it when I tried it out for the first time.

I'm probably in the minority here but I prefer a 7' rod rated up to an ounce. I just might buy that dobyns champ xp 704c. I like being able to pull more line and stick them at distance. I walk the dog with 8' musky rods so the extra length doesn't bother me at all.

I got a MB XXX Rattle Viper at the beginning of this season and love it for jerkbaits. I throw a lot of jerkbaits and prefer a mod fast medium power rod most of the time. I do use a medium heavy for bigger jerkbaits. You don't have to spend as much for a rod that is designed for trebles but it is nice to feel the fish striking the jerkbait. Many times, smallies will smack it without getting the hooks. I speed up my retrieve when this happens and they will usually come back for it. This can also happen with LMB as well. All of my jerkbait rods double as topwater rods in the summer. The best length for me is between 6'3" and 6'9". Good luck in your quest.

I also use the Avid 6'8" for jerking walleyes. smallies, and lgmth and for topwater. I like it so much I have two of them. One of the rods is strung with Sunline Def. Armillo and strictly for topwater. I love, love, love the rod. Another rod I like for both is an IMX 783 MBR.
