Medium light Helium 3 casting
Medium light Helium 3 casting
Anyone used this rod from kistler? Thinking about picking one up and throwing a Aldebaran on it just haven't seen any reviews on it. Seems like a nice finesse casting rod.
Re: Medium light Helium 3 casting
I have the He-ML-70f that I paired up with a alphas air, its a great finesse setup. I use it for throwing ned rigs and drop shots. Throws 1/8 jigheads with 3in gulp minnows a great ways. I haven't tested its upper limits as I haven't thrown anything over 1/4 ounce on it. Very sensetive and feels very light in hand.
Re: Medium light Helium 3 casting
Thanks for the reply! Not sure if the medium light is what I need though. Wanting to throw 1/8-3/16 shaky heads. Had a medium zbone and felt it was a little to stiff, but I had a reel on it that wasn't capable of what I was wanting. Anyone use the dobyns extreme 702c for shaky heads and spybaits? I would be pairing with a alderbaran bfs with 12lb sx1 and a 8lb leader.

Hi,
I bought the Helium 3 medium light casting rod this winter to pair with a Shimano Aldebaran. Nice combo but cannot use it right now since still ice on the water up here in Canada.
You will not have trouble throwing shakey hads with this rod. Not sure it is suited for spybaits though. I throw a lot of spybaits and I prefer medium rods with moderate or moderate fast action fishing smallmouths.

I find it funny how everyone prefers a different rod for different techniques. I actually prefer fast or extra fast for spy baits. The 3/8 max rating on the ML kinda scares me. A 3/16 shaky head with a 7" worm would really push that I imagine, as would a spybait.Laphroaig18 wrote:Hi,

I have this rod with an airy red pixzilla mounted to it. Im using it this year for ned rigs and small cranks. Last year it was used for mainly small cranks like the little flicker shads and 1/4 oz red eye shads in open water. I have had no complaints with the rod except going from a heavy pitching right to this rod makes it truely feel like a fairy wand lol

I have tried the Aldebaran on both the Kistler and DX702C.
I MUCH prefer the 702C for those applications. ( of course, the PERFECT reel for the 702 is the little green Curado 50E)

I have the He3 in LMH Fast, my all around favorite rod. The only ML Kistler I have is the Mag2 Fast, paired with a Revo MGXtreme and 20# braid, should be similar, 1/4 oz is no problem - still playing with 1/8 oz, might have to keep a little spinner around.
