Damaged my all around rod, want to upgrade, what to do?

Hi all,

I had put my Avid X onto craigslist, since I wanted to sell it in order to update my all around rod. Yesterday I wanted to fish it one last time. What can I say, it was one of those days... Lost 3 brand new lures (total loss 30 USD) and 2 other lures (another 15 USD). The icing on the cake was that I fully broke off two guides on my Rod, when I tried to un snag a lure (that I of course also lost..).

So, I am wondering what to do.

This was my all - around stick for going out when I just wanted to bring one combo (i have it paired with a Antares DC). I wanted to upgrade because I did not like the tip (it was rated as fast, but it felt more like a medium fast to me) and the sensitivity was not to the level where I would like it to be.
I used the rod for anything from Spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits to jigs.

So therefor I started looking into other rods such as:
I am looking for a rod that is Medium heavy (can throw idally lures from 1/8 - 1 os), has a extra fast taper, no micro guides, longer handle, super sensitive, robust and has good warranty

* Megabass Destroyer USA Casting Rod 7'2" Daemos
* Kistler Z-Bone LEXF Casting Rod 7'3" Med Hvy
* St. Croix Legend Xtreme Casting Rod 7'1" Med Hvy X Fa ( which I would probably get through the upgrade program)
* G. Loomis GLX 843C MBR Mag Bass Casting Rod or G. Loomis GLX 844C MBR Mag Bass Casting Rod
* Orochi XX Casting Rod 7'2" Diablo Spec R
* Daiwa Steez SVF AGS Casting Rod 7'1" Heavy
* St. Croix Legend Elite Casting Rod 7'1" Med Hvy
* something else?

Would love to get your thoughts on the rod that I should get. Also what do you think should I do with the Avid X? What do you think the I would get for the Avid X (besides the guide it is in good condition)?

Thank you very much for your help again guys!

If I were you I would trade in for the Legend Elite (or Extreme defending on which handle you prefer). If I had the funds I would own one.

I would get the 7' MH/fast st croix legend elite. Especially if you can get a deal through upgrade program.
For 'all around' use, fast action is where it's at imo. You can make it act 'faster' by using flouro or braid, or 'slow it down' for treble hook stuff by using mono.

The XX DSR is a great all around rod, but it definitely isn't x-fast, more in the f-mf range. I can't speak to the new Daemos.

Ok, I think I want to take advantage of the deal at land big fish .

So, I want to choose between the following three rods:

* GLX 843C MBR

* St. Croix Legend Xtreme Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy

* St. Croix Legend Xtreme Casting Rod 7'1" Med Hvy X Fa

I am not sure if the lure rating of 1/4-3/4oz or 3/8-1oz is favorable.

Thoughts?

can't offer you much. The MBR 843 and its weight range are classic all around to me for Kentucky. Maybe a heavier weight range would be my all around in Florida. Just depends on where you fish what all around weights even mean. Loomis H rods used to compare well to the Croix MH. Have not touched a St Croix in years so can't confirm if this is the case now or not.

Diablo Spec R, though I wouldn't consider it X Fast, it sure does do a lot of things well.

Why not get a GLX 844C MBR it is rate 1/4 - 1 oz. and makes a great all around rod.

More expensive, sensitive rods are going to be much more fragile. Sounds like you'd be better off with an Ugly Stick.

I narrowed it down to:

St. Croix Legend Elite Casting Rod 6'8" Med Hvy (the Extremes just did not feel that comfortable and customer service of St.Croix said that the guides of the Elite are a bit more robust than the Extreme's)

+ I love the tip (just what I am looking for)
+ Handle has a good feel to it
+ Hook keeper design is great
+ 50 USD cheaper than the G.Loomis
- I wish the handle was a bit longer
- Micro guides not as robust
- reel seat not as nice as the one on the G.Loomis

G. Loomis GLX Casting Rod 7' Heavy 844C MBR
+ Reel seat feels and looks very nice
+ has a broughter lure weight spectrum (1/4oz - 1oz vs 3/8 - 1 on the St.Croix)
+ 'Regular' Guides (I think they are more robust which is important to me as a bank fisherman)
- Hook keeper design not as robust as on the St.Croix

Daiwa Steez XT Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy
+ Lure Rating (1/4 - 1 oz)
+ Handle feels nice with the Antares
+ Guides (no micro guides, which I think makes the rod a bit more robust for my bank fisherman endevours
+ Most affordable rod out of the bunch
- No hook keeper (minor point)
- I have not seen much reviews on the rod, so I am not sure how it stands up against the two oder ones)

Any thoughts on my thinking process?
