New GLX MBR782 vs. MBR842 vs MBR852?

Post by JAB50 » Sun Apr 16, 2017 12:45 am

I have purchased 3 Glx Loomis's. Two are the new model JWR 853c,MBR844 and MBR843(the previous version). I've been looking at purchasing a 2 power rod. Looking to throw jerkbaits(ito vision 110's,kvd Excalibur jerkbaits/old style),rat l traps,4" senkos and some finesse baits. How comparable are these?
Is the MBR 782 comparable exactly to the 842 but just shorter?
And is the NRX 843 similar to these new GLX 2 powers. I have heard they are a bit softer in power to their GLX counterparts. But, how much softer are they now to the new redesigned Glx's?
I appreciate any feedback! Between tackle tour and bass boat central its really an understatement to how helpful everyone on both of these boards are with the wealth of knowledge that's given out daily.
Thanks again everyone!

Oops, I meant jwr 852 for the heading! I read tackle tours review on the 842 model by the way. Trying to see other the other rods mentioned stacked up in other people's hands!

The NRX versions seem to have lighter tips, but very similar backbone. The NRX 843 is capable of throwing 3/4oz, wouldn't throw that with the 842 in NRX or GLX. I throw all the jerkbaits you mentioned with my NRX 842, and would say the GLX version would fish them perfectly. Senkos and finesse baits should also work well, very versatile rods. Between the 842, 843 and 844, you should be able to fish 90% of bass lures out there.

I can only speak based on older models. The 782 was not like the 842. My 782 is a dedicated topwater and jerkbait rod. However, it is too slow for plastics. The 842 and 852 were much better with the 1/4oz plastic. Likely faster, stronger and of course longer. I hear many talk about using the 842 for topwaters and jerkbaits but at least in the old model, not my cup of tea. See the TT review of the new 842 which they claim is less powerful then old.

Thanks for the info guys. I might just get another 843. I usually throw vision 110's and megabass pop max. So, they would be at the top end of the 2 series capabilities. I have the new GLX jwr 853 for my 3/16oz beaver and soft plastic presentations. The new GLX 844 for heavier presentations. The previous generation GLX 843 for another multi purpose setup. I have a Poison Adrena 6'6mh that I was using for 3/16oz Texas rigged 10" worms. I have a slew of the older Quantum Pt tour edition baitcasters. I'll probably just use my Quantum Superlite 6'6"M for finesse style presentations. And I have 2 6'10" shimano zodias's. One is a medium and the other is a 6'10"mh.

good idea. if you are throwing baits 1/2oz and up I think the 843 the better choice; or a 783
