Re: Frog Rod ideas????
Personally there is no reason to spend big money on a rod that is nothing but a reaction and visual bite. I would get a Dobyns Fury735.

You don't need to spend a ton of money into a frog rod / a cranckbait rod / a jig rod/ a drop shot rod / .... - You don t need but you may want to if you are die hard in a particular technique.
For froggin I have a steez xbd frog rod rod:

I bought this rod because I am a frog fishing addict and because I can afford it, fishing with a top end rod is a pleasure in itself for some anglers.- But I will never pretend I am a better angler because I have a 400 dollars rod.
At the end it is up to you, hopefully tackle shops today offer beautiful efficient rods at all prices.
What you need is a rod between 7 and 7.6 ft / heavy or xheavy power / fast action / as light as possible
The tatula frog rod seems to me a good deal if you don t want to spend too much money... like many others rods from other brands.

I've yet anything I don't like about the St. Croix LTB Slop-N-Frog/Swim Jig rod. Revo STX 8.0:1 reel with 50# Sufix 832.
Cast a hollow body Frog out of site, a Ribbit slightly farther.

As a Phenix user, the M1 78H or Recon Elite/Recon 2 796 or 766. Just depends on how stiff a frog rod you like. the 766/796 are going to be a little stout. Those three run less than $200 each. The UMBX 707H works well too.
A classic is the Cumara 74H. but that's kind of heavy in weight. A buddy of mine is having one re-worked with micro guides, and sanding off the gloss finish. I'm not sure if he took a weight measure of the rod before, but i'll see if he can get me the after.

Thanks for all the input.
I've narrowed my choices
down to 2 Rods: 7'6 H Phenix
Recon Elite & Kistler Helium3
7''6 H. Having never handled
either, any opinions from those
of you who have? T U.

Re: Frog Rod ideas????
kistler rods are great i have two a klx and a helium. They are rated a little under power, I would check out the klx 7'6" extra heavy. it has a moderate fast action that i have found to work better for frogs. tight lines
Re: Frog Rod ideas????
Are you fishing over matted vegetation? If so, I think the recon elite will be awesome. If you're trying to walk/work your frog in open water, the tip might be a little fast and take some adjusting. I think a Phenix MBX 707H is a great all around option.

I'll be using the rod in Lilly pads.
Not much chance to walk frog in
that heavy cover. More twitches
and dragging. I'm looking for a really fast
rod w a light tip. Something that
can throw a Spro Frog a long ways
without having to put your whole
body into it to make a cast. I've never
been a fan of moderate action rods.
For me, I feel like I'm setting the
hook into the handle. Takes forever
to get into the fish.

There's a 7'6 frog rod in the new megabass destroyer line up, as Gary mentioned in another thread.
If you're not in a big hurry, I'd wait to check that one out. It is a 7'6 frog rod after all...
