Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Vs. Nrx 894
Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Vs. Nrx 894
I am just wondering how these two rods compare. I had a Dobyns Champion Extreme HP 745, but was a little underwhelmed with the sensitivity for the price, great rod overall though. I am thinking one of the two rod mentioned in the subject. How do they compare? I have heard great things about the Orochi XX series so I pulled the trigger on an EMTF, but haven't been able to use it yet. I have also used an Nrx 894 once and was pretty impressed, but not totally blown away considering the extreme hype I had heard. Thoughts on which for 3/8 and 1/2 oz. jig rod in moderate cover?
Re: Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Vs. Nrx 894
I have a couple PP and they are sweet Rods. Alittle heavy I would say for 3/8 oz jigs but it will work. 1/2-3/4 would be the sweet spot for me. I don't use them much for jigs however since they make sick frog rods. Mine are both the Japanese edition.
Can't comment on the NRX but if it's anything like the GLX it's a beast of a jig rod in the 1/2 to 3/4 oz range as well. The extreme mission will do the trick for 3/8 oz jigs.

I have both and fished them side by side a lot this past fall. XXPP is about 1 power stronger than 894c IMO. 3/8 oz total is near the bottom of the XXPP but still manageable. Add a plastic and anything heavier then the rod shines better as it's really a XH rod. I also use mine for frogging and it does it well.
For those weights and cover you are fishing to me the 894c would be the one.

If you're moderate cover is clean structure ie...docks, pilings, laydowns not slop and weedmat then I would go with the 893. It balances better and is more sensitive than the 894. I use my 853 for 1/2 oz jigs a lot in thick stuff.

If you want sweet, I'd say get the xx. If you want lightweight and top notch sensitivity, get the 894. The only other rod I'll throw my jigs on in that range other than my 894 is the '15 zbone 7'3h lexf. I understand you on the dobyns. Even after I updated to the HP, it still is JUS a moving bait rod. Guess the nrx has ruin me

The cover I am referring to is mostly reeds/grass. A lot of the time I am just fishing on the edge, but sometimes you have to get into the cover a little bit on the sunnier and mid days times.
Re: Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Vs. Nrx 894
I'm a huge fan of the NRX894 but in moderate to low cover in the weight range you suggest, the NRX893 is better. Lighter, better balanced and maybe a touch more sensitive.
I fish Okeechobee about 80% of the time now and the 893 is the only 3 powered rod that I have wanted to use on the main lake. Fishes like a 3.5 power to me because of the length I think.

Another rod that keeps crossing my mind for your purpose is the NRX 873crr.

i use mine for 1/2oz jigs mostly. great football jig rod. its not really a 3 power...masterbass wrote:Another rod that keeps crossing my mind for your purpose is the NRX 873crr.

I never bought this rod because it seemed super-stiff tipped. I thought the 894 even had a softer tip, but I never owned the 873 so I could be mistaken...bigfruits wrote:i use mine for 1/2oz jigs mostly. great football jig rod. its not really a 3 power...masterbass wrote:Another rod that keeps crossing my mind for your purpose is the NRX 873crr.

873, 893, 894- I think all could fish well the baits listed yet each rod is a little different. some of this is personal preference. I tend to like a rod a little more powerful then most guys whereas some like the tip to be under more load when dragging.
Re: Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Vs. Nrx 894
Had a 4.25 today slow rolling a 4 inch swim bait with small head on the 893 with 8# test line. only the 893 would protect such light line. So I guess this is another factor to consider; what else might you want to do with the rod.
Re: Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Vs. Nrx 894
Good point, I almost edited my original response to ask what size line he used. I pitch docks with 12-16# FC, where a lot of guys use 20# and even bigger. 12 and 14# is easier to break than you think, especially when you need to put a lot of pressure on a fish quickly to get him out. And as pointed out I like a little more tip flex when jigging than some.DavidSA wrote:Had a 4.25 today slow rolling a 4 inch swim bait with small head on the 893 with 8# test line. only the 893 would protect such light line. if u feel underwhelmed by the sensitivity of the hp 745 then u'll prob feel even more underwhelmed by the xx and not very impressed with the 894

Hennessy - Do you use the 4 power MH or the 5 power H in the Z Bone LEXF's when comparing to the nrx 894?Hennessy wrote:If you want sweet, I'd say get the xx.
