NRX 842s
NRX 842s
Looking for a rod softer than the 852 NRX, which to me is about a 2.5 powered spinning rod. Looking for something about a ML power... Would the 842 be a good fit for drop shots, and lighter finesse stuff. If it fits the bill I may get it rather than a Zillion ML, depends on much I blow on tackle this spring

Re: NRX 842s
You probably want the 822 DSR.
Re: NRX 842s
Probably should have mentioned I had a 822 syr right when NRX first came out and thought it was a little too whippy...I liked the tip but felt like a dropshot only rod to me.
Re: NRX 842s
I would say if you needed a 2.5, go with the 843c MBR. Loads further back. The 842c MBR I would then consider to a 2.25 if compared to a 822s SYR being a 2. Geez I hope that makes sense.

Re: NRX 842s
I have an 842S. The tip is soft, but not that soft either. It gets into back bone rather quick. I love the soft tip for casting smaller, lighter baits. I mainly use it for weightless flukes, grubs on 1/8 jig head. I tried it for drop shot and it did very well. Its a great rod IMO and is overlooked a lot because of the 852S.

Re: NRX 842s
The 842S is a great all around finesse rod, because of the soft tip and fast action. Works well for drop shots and shakey head jigs and other finesse open hook jigs.
Thanks for the epiphany captain obvious
Re: NRX 842s
No I think the 852 feels like a 2.5 spinning, like a little more powerful than most spin jig 2 powers. Looking for a true ML, definitely not a light though. It sounds like it's the 842 if I get an NRX...Bubbleboy wrote:I would say if you needed a 2.5, go with the 843c MBR. Loads further back. Re: NRX 842s
I've been looking through NRX/GLX for a true ML DSR too but there aren't any. Your answer would be the E6X 820S DSR but they make no 820s in GLX or NRX.

That being said, I don't agree with the 842 being a drop shot rod...
