Depends on the techniques. If i do one technique more than another that will be a big thing to think about

My most expensive rod i own is a spinning rod i had s o convert to a bfs casting rod.
The rod itself was 500 $ then i had a rod builder strip it measure it again to get the best result for its bending action.
strip and re-design the entire handle so it blends in with the other casting rods of that line up. Putting new microguides on it cost me another 380$
but it was worth it and it casts lighter than i expected.

Hey fish junkies and bait monkeys a like. New to the site and I would like to weight in on this topic. I am a sucka for the daiwa tatula series of rods having elites and regular. I also have a JDM Zillion flipping. I am not saying I wouldn't spend more for a rod I just found what I prefer.
I did how ever just placed an order for a new drop shot rod from megabass and if I like it as much as everyone seems to like them I may be switching my daiwa rods over

Truth be told you can do the same thing with a 300.00 combo as a 1000.00 + combo, the investment wont make you a better fisherman. That being said in most cases the higher end gear will have better feel in hand and better transmission of what is going on at the end of your line. Comfort , balance, and performance is what you are going to get for your investment not to mention a much much visually appealing setup.

I have spent up to $700 on a rod a few times. I buy what I think I need. Not necessarily what I can get by with. Fishing to me is about enjoyment and I get more enjoyment out of top of the line gear. If I don't catch any fish I can't blame my gear!
