NRX 852c

For those who have the NRX 852c, what do you primarily use the rod for? Which line and reel are you using with it?
I already have one, just looking for some feedback on what people are using it for!

I mostly use mine for smaller spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and 4 and 5 inch yum dingers and it makes for one mean 1/8oz belly weighted little dipper rod.
I have a shimano Aldebaran Mg7 on mine with 12lb line.

I've used mine for t rigs weightless to using a 1/4oz weight. I've used it for jerkbaits, topwaters, senkos, little spinnerbaits, small jigs... Its very versatile.

Only takes a handful of big fish not being hooked well for me to grow sour. I can absolutely see a 2 power if 8# line needs to be protected but I was fishing 10 and 12# line which I found was well protected on 3power loomis rods.

I was using 12lb Sniper. I have my drag locked down. I reel down when I feel the nibble and then set the hook. Don't remember losing a bunch of fish. Also, I use the VMC flipping hooks 3/0. I hate them for punching but make good open watee T rig hooks

I have a Alphas with 10lb fluoro on mine. I like to throw tubes, flukes, and light Texas rigged plastics with this rod. I have lost bigger fish while throwing 5" Senkos and small jigs. I try and stick with light wire ultra sharp hooks which work well with 2 power rods.

I think hook sets are good with this rod because of the XF taper. One day this year I got onto a awesome little dipper bite. I have a yumeya finesse spool in the Mg7 and the distances I can achieve casting that 1/80z belly weighted little dipper is most impressive to me. Most all fish caught that day were on a long cast but one in particular I did a hail mary cast at a blow up and actually landed the dipper right in the middle of the boil and got bit immediately, I reeled tight before I set the hook and landed that fish on one serious long range hookset. There is a lot of plastic in the way of that hook on a little dipper also. I don't know about 8lb line with that rod though.

I've got 3 of them with px-r reels and 8-12# line. One is rigged with a Ned, one with a drop shot and one with either a shaky head or split shot rig. It's possibly the most enjoyable nrx I have. I think they cast light lures 90% of people would usually use an eggbeater for just fine.

Curious, do your shakyheads have a light wire hook? Or is it normal diameter similar to what is on a 1/4 oz jig. I recently ordered one but haven't been able to put it through it's paces. I plan to use it for neds, shakeys, wacky, weightless trig worms and craws. Given it's a 2 power I assume I am limited to light line #8-10lb fluoro and light wire hooks.

I run 12lb on mine and have used 10lb a lot. I personally would hesitate on 8lb just because I would be concerned about good hooksets given the drag would need to be backed off some to protect the line.

I purchased mine from Gary at the Tackle Trap specifically for 1/4oz football jigs with twin tail trailer for Lake Shasta, where we have stunted growth spotted bass. Most of the fish I land are 0.75lbs to maybe 1.5lbs. I was using the 853c and 893c but those rods felt too powerful.

The 2016 GLX 892c has my curiosity. I think it may suit my needs better than the 852 for 1/4oz jigs in deep water.

I actually got to handle that rod in the store, I think the backbone is comparable to the 852C nrx but I think the tip is softer. Regardless, seemed to me like it would make for a neat rod to have. ]

I have had an 852 for a couple of months now without a reel. I want to run 6 and 8lb pline cxx and was thinking aldebaran due to diawa not having a current reel that competes with the aldebaran (finesse class). I wish they made a 'medium' bfs reel that held 90yds of 8lb line. It seems like you get either 90 -100yds of 10lb or 50yds of 6lb.

I'm with you on two counts. The 893 will cast 1/4oz football well but I can see if the line is light and open cover it is overkill. I love this rod though and at the time of purchase could not see my way to buying a 892 glx without a single review or any balance or weight measures. The 892 has my curiosity as well.

On the 893, I can't say factually it is stouter then a 853 or 803 but what I can say is it fells stouter and manhandles fish better. If the 892 has the same characteristics it could be in my boat next summer.

I have two 852c.
One paired with an Airy Red Pixy with 7lb sniper, the other paired with a Pixy type r, paired with 20lb braid with 8lb sniper.
Both are used for 5" Senko, Scrounger head, flukes, t rig, and jerkbaits.
Extremely versatile rod, gets good hooksets, with plenty of power and very very sensitive.
