Your most versatile rod?
Your most versatile rod?
Being a co-angler, I value versatility. What is your most versatile rod? What techniques does the rod perform?
Re: Your most versatile rod?
It really depends where I'm fishing and how deep I think I'll be fishing. I like longer rods if I'll be fishing deep or casting out farther.
But it's a split between my mbr 843 and 844 glx. My 843 glx is strictly a super spook/spinnerbait rod now, but it's also great for most bass techniques that you'd use 12lb test on.
I use my 844 glx more though, since I pitch t-rigs and jigs more. I don't like this rod for casting though, I prefer a longer rod lol.
I still believe these are some of the most versatile rods out there. When I'm shore fishing or limited to rods, I'll usually take one of these rods with me.

Re: Your most versatile rod?
Currently for casting rods would be the MBR 843, EMTF Type F, and Dobyns 705CB glass. For a spinning rod the AlX Zolo B Maestro would get my vote. I would thrown in a big and plastics rod if I was looking for 5 rods total like a NRX 873 or Helium H3.

Re: Your most versatile rod?
Pretty much all of my MB Orochi XX rods are versatile. Great rods.
Re: Your most versatile rod?
GLX 843c - pretty much any bait
NRX 852s - jigs and plastics under 3/8oz
NRX 852s - jigs and plastics under 3/8oz
Re: Your most versatile rod?
I fished as a non-boater for a lot of years, and never left the dock without an 844 and 843 glx...sometimes 2 of each. Back in school it was imx's.
Re: Your most versatile rod?
Nrx 852c is a co anglers dream rod
Re: Your most versatile rod?
although I haven't had it long, the MBR843 E6X that I have seems to be able to throw anything well so far.

NRX852C and NRX852S...love this rod for smallies, have 3 super versatile.
Re: Your most versatile rod?
This is all about where you fish. In central KY, I would vote for the MBR843 or equivalent. In Florida where I fish most of the time, this honor goes to a Powell 3d 775 or NRX 894. I can see if I lived in Smallie world then a NRX 852s might be king.
The mbr 843 does make the trip to Florida; my 2 powered Gloomis not so much so I have a hard time saying a 2 power rod is versatile outside of smallie and finesse applications.

I was impressed at the range of weights the 852s does great with - from light finesse worms to 1/4oz Arky jigs w/ 4" hula grubs. I do not like fishing the latter on any other 2 power or St. Croix ML rods that i have tried (Avid,LE,GLX,NRX).DavidSA wrote:I can see if I lived in Smallie world then a NRX 852s might be king.

It also does a decent job of fishing moving baits.
I agree it would not be very versatile in FL grass.

Re: Your most versatile rod?
842 and 843 NRX are a great pair to have if you're looking to cover a lot of techniques. I can cover 90% of the lures I throw with these 2 rods. Wish they made a 844 NRX for that next step up, could do everything but punching with those 3. For bass, if I had to choose 1, it would be the 843.
Re: Your most versatile rod?
NRX 803c. It does everything well. Being a little short comes in handy if you ever small boats.
Re: Your most versatile rod?
I like my rods underpowered I have 782/783 glooms rods and they are super versatile but my favorite is a St Croix medium light fast. For the fishing I do it's a blast and I throw à little bit of everything with it.

Big brother and little brother. These two rods to me are similar but different power. What I've used them for.
