2 piece casting rod for bank fishing

Post by versus158 » Mon Aug 08, 2016 6:29 pm

Hi everyone,

First post here but i have been looking around for a while and always found great advice.
I need your help i'm searching the market for a good 2 piece baitcasting rod, i exclusively fish from the bank so i would like to keep it relatively short. Ideally something in between 6'6 and 7' would be great. I live in France and lakes/ponds around here tend to have pretty dense vegetation surrounding them, casting can get a bit tricky with a long rod.
Specs wise I'm looking for something quite well rounded as i'm not going to be carrying multiple rods with me, so I think a MH fast action 1/4 to 1oz would do the job.
Hope you can help me out on this all I can find are 1 piece rods, which aren't really an option when you've got a small car !

Thanks for your help guys !

I have a GraphiteLeader Bosco 7' H as my bank fishing "car trunk" rod. It works great as I am faced with rather weedy shorelines here in Florida.

Check out their line as they have a variety of 2 piece rods. Performance and sensitivity is quite good also.

Shimano/Jackall Poison Adrena's are great rods
They make some in two pieces.

i had a good look at the poison adrenas because they seem really nice quality, unfortunately they don't make the size that i'm looking for in 2 pieces.
Looks like most of my luck will be found with japanese brands though.

Adrenas have two 2pc rods, both in 6'10" M and MH, your original post was about rods between 6'6" and 7'.
Look up Major Craft rods, most of them have 2pc option and they are relatively inexpensive.

Another option - Sent Croix Legend Extreme rods, those are really good rods, and you can get one shipped to you for $400 or so.

They got couple seven footers BC rods in 2pc.

Yeah the st ccroix look good, but they kind of break the budget :(.
Have any of you tried out the tailwalk rods ?
Or should I be better off just getting a seccond Tatula ?

I second the Major Craft. They come with a sleeve and everything. Also, I have a Daiwa Ardito 7' mh/f that is really nice to fish with. It's sensitive, powerful, and comes with a really nice semi hard case that will protect it from anything. And it's a 3 piece, which is supposed to help with the flex ( I think it does) and makes it very travel friendly.

I am not sure what your budget is however american legacy fishing is having a 25% sale on g loomis glx rods so you can get the mbr 783 glx 2 piece at a discount.

this is the best all-around rod ive ever fished (1 piece). best spinnerbait rod ive fished too. its perfect for what you described.

put your back seat down and get a 1 piece. :)

if you break it, $100 gets you a new one. (edit -oops, not sure how expeditor service works in France)

Thanks for all the awesome advice everyone !

I've finally found some center cut 2 piece poison adrenas, think i'll be going with one of those.
Which one would you recommend 1610 M- 2 or 1610 MH -2 ?

Fishing from the bank I carry all types of baits with me (cranks, jerks, jigs, plastics, spinners, topwaters...) and during the same day i need to witch lure types quite frequently.
I've already got a Daiwa Tatula 662MHB, so my idea was to get a second rod to split the work load in between them and spend less time time tying on baits.

Looking forward to reading your recommendations.

Look at recommendation on official Shimano website. Legend of this table: red circle - rod exellent for bait, white circle - rod good for bait, triangle - rod can use for bait, but not well as with previous. So, i think 1610M is more universal rod for you.

I second the idea of a one piece rod.

despite what people say, 1 piece rods are still smoother casting, lighter, stronger and more sensitive vs 2 piece rods even with today's better ferrules. they are much better all around.

you can easily fit a 6.5 to 7 foot rod into a small car. I used to do it in my little Volkswagen golf all the time.

put it through the seats so that the reel end is where the passenger puts their feet in front. then put the rod through the seats so the tip is at the back roof.

its easy.

that being said, the two piece GLX suggested above would be amazing.

good luck with whatever you choose.

Thank you for all your input.

It has been very helpful, I'm aware that 1 piece is better and there's also more choice, but for the moment it just can't be considered an option unfortunately.

You all helped me out loads guys.

Thank you so much.
