I have owned the GLX 852s for about two years. I fish a lot of smallmouth on 3/8oz. tubes. The 852 is a perfect length rod for most any types of open water application. Yes people talk about longer rods but I just don't see the benefits. How much better is a 7'3 rod over a 7'1", It's negligeable. I just purchased an NRX852s and I'm excited to try it. The one thing that I have noticed is the handle on the NRX is much smaller which fits my hand better. The GLX made my wrist sore after a day on the water. I will check back once I've had a bit of time with it. good luck with your search.

ive never fished the 872s but the NRX 852s would be perfect for tubes.
its my go-to rod for small plastics (weighted and non) 3/8oz total weight and below. a little too much for dropshot but far from bad at it. its better with a 4" senko than a 5", but its still the rod i pick up when using 5" senkos in open water even though some of my other rods load better with the 10 gram senko (GLX 852s).
i own 6 NRXs, a couple of St. Croix LEs and a bunch of GLXs and this rod is the most sensitive and is the one i was most impressed with. i use spinning gear for about 50% of my fishing. It might have made 4 of my LE and GLX spinning rods obsolete to me.

After a bit of use, here's my take on the Nrx852s for tubes.
Rod is a dream to have in my hands. After a full day on the water, I have no soreness or strain on my wrist like I did with the GLX852s. The weight of the NRX is noticeably lighter too. lighter weight means less fatigue, less fatigue means more fish, more fish means more money. You will make money with this rod.

In all seriousness, the rod is awesome but it may be on the lighter side if fishing 3/8 oz. or over. For that, the Glx852s would get the nod for me. Unfortunately, the handle isn't my cup of tea.
Without threadjacking, does anyone know of another spinning rod that could fish a 3/8oz tube without the oversized handle? Cost isn't a concern. Best of luck, G
