Daiwa Tatula 610 Medium
Anybody have the handle length measurement by any chance? By that I mean from the butt to where the reel seat starts.

Oh, nice! The upper lure rating of 1oz seems a bit much, yeah?
Thanks for the info!

1 oz is too much...Daiwa has alot of wide range rods like that...they have some JDM's that are 1/8-1oz and 3/16-1/1/2oz.MediumHeavy wrote:Oh, nice! The upper lure rating of 1oz seems a bit much, yeah?

This rods upper end is more like 1/2 oz...maybe 5/8. Makes nice Drop shot or Ned rig ...really like it for small tiny flukes with 1/64 darter heads and my pixy.
Daiwa would have sold more of these rods earlier if they would have put it with their casting section. But it took them 2 years to separate it out of their dropshot spinning section on their website. They finally fixed it over the winter.

I'm interested in this rod but have a few concerns. What is the low limit of this rod to load the blank properly and cast? Is it 3/32 oz or is it higher than 3/32 oz and 3/32 is only useful for loading the tip? Will this rod properly load up and bomb 3/32oz?

It will load up and cast 3/32 without problem

Re: Daiwa Tatula 610 Medium
I'd probably use it for 1/8-1/4oz jigs and weightless plastics, maybe small poppers or jerkbaits in a pinch.
Just picked up a Tatula stick earlier in the week on clearance at a local store and I think it might be one of the most comfortable I've ever fished. The reel seat is fantastic. It's the 7'1" MH and it's got a nice tip and quite a massive backbone for such a light and well balanced rod. I feel like these should be more popular!

The handle from the reel seat back is 10", 13-3/4" overall, just like most of the other tatulas and major craft volkeys and MSX's, it turns out.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 610 Medium
I've heard conflicting information about this rod. On one hand I hear that it doesn't cast baits very far, which I assume is due to the light flexible tip over loading and burning off energy in the cast and on the other hand I hear that it loads up properly and casts down 3/32 oz well. I can put two hands on the rod, place it over my right shoulder and throw 3/32 to 3/8 oz without suffering from poor casting distance?
I'm trying to decide between the Tatula 610 M with a Morethan PE SV or a Zodias 610 ML with an Alphas SV. I will be using the combo distance casting Ned rigs, the occasional jerkbait and target casting/skipping docks with small wacky rigged BPS Stick-Os, weighted wacky BPS Flicking Shimmy and 3/32 to 1/8 oz shakey heads with BPS Flicker Worms. I like the idea of rod with a light flexible tip and a strong backbone but such rods typically are great to pitching and gentle roll casts but suffer from over loading and poor distance above the rods low limit and fail to load the blank properly and cast far in an over-the-shoulder type cast when near the low limit. I already own the Alphas SV on a Zodias 7'2'' M and do not own the Morethan PE SV. The Tatula 610 M would fuel my Morethan PE SV fantasy by matching the rods aesthetics and branding perfectly plus I always have been very interested in the Steez Megatop. The idea of another Zodias is just... meh.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 610 Medium
My opinion is that the Morethan PE SV will not balance well with the Tatula or Steez Megatop.
I think of the Morethan PE as a "chucking and winding" reel. Not really a finesse reel---though the shallow PE spool leads one to think differenty.
The SS Air or Alphas 105 or the Pixy. ('04 yellow looks sharp) would be reels I think of for these Megatop rods. For me since I got the custom Yellow wrapped black label light x-fast JDM rod for my pixy....my tatula megatop sits empty right now. Awaiting the right priced Presso to come along.
I have had both the Steez megatop which I unloaded once the Tatula veriosn came out and I realized that I had paid a premium for the Steez name and the Tatula was basically the same rod.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 610 Medium
Would you say the TAT6101mxb is a finesse rod? I want something for light baits but could handle 3/8 if I needed it. I kinda also want the 701mrb.
Re: Daiwa Tatula 610 Medium
Yes...it will handle up to 3/8 oz. However your 2 rod choices are 2 different rod...the 701MRB is a regular ( Daiwa's name for moderate action) rod and is more of a reaction bait type rod. or as I term for use with Lures that have Trebles.MediumHeavy wrote:Would you say the TAT6101mxb is a finesse rod? Oh yeah, I meant both, not either/or
The 7201mrb is pretty stout. I was able to check that one out in the store.
