Have reel, need a rod

Post by Mothra » Fri Apr 08, 2016 3:21 am

So, I have an extra reel laying around that needs a home and I'm looking for suggestions as to what to put it on. Below are my current casting set-ups. I was thinking about trying out a Megabass rod, specifically thinking about the EMTF, DSR or PP, but not limited to those options or even Megabass. Would like to keep it around or under the $300 price range. Thanks!

Casting Rods Application
Dobyns - Champion (704CB) Small cranks, poppers, buzzbaits
Dobyns - Champion (734C) Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs
Dobyns - Champion (735C) Frogs, Jigs, Heavy Swim Jigs
Dobyns - Champion (764CBRM) Small to medium cranks, lipless
Dobyns - Champion (765CB Glass) Big cranks, spinnerbaits
Dobyns - Champion (795MLSB) Swimbaits
G. Loomis - NRX (893C) Weightless plastics, T-rigs
G. Loomis - NRX (894C) Jigs

This rod will amaze you in the different techniques it can preform in!! Love mine!! It is one heck of for lighter baits or topwater where you don't need a actual true med. hvy rod. I don't know another company that builds a rod like this one!

The megabass XX EMTF is an awesome rod for the price and covers a vast array of techniques very well. One of my favorite rods. Which reel do you have lying around?

Can't go wrong with a NRX.

your lineup looks like it's missing a flipping stick. the XX flipping special is a nice rod as is the daiwa zillion flipping stick (i've had both). you could also use a finesse rod but you may wanna go with spinning gear for that.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to look into them. I was actually thinking about a flipping stick, as well. Originally, an ALX Powerbolt, but haven't been able to find many reviews on the rod.

If you up your budget just a little Gary (Bronzefly)over at Tackle Trap, who is a board sponsor and a stand up dude, could hook you up with a dealer sample NRX. Just looking at your lineup I would consider an 852 casting or spinning; both amazing rods...or an 843 a really versatile and balanced stick. Shoot him a PM and see what he thinks

I think hat Lews TP would look really nice on an EMTF in the Levante series.
