G Loomis NRX 802c
For those of you that currently own, or have had the NRX 802 casting model what are thoughts on the rod? Does is still have the "it factor" that other NRX rods like the 893 have? What do you like the rod for? I did some reading and searching but there isn't much said about this model and most of what I get is for the 802 spinning rod. Looking to possibly add one to the arsenal....

Re: G Loomis NRX 802c
Used to own a NRX 802S and had a BCR 802 GLX. Loved this rod for 1/8 oz plus plastic like a baby brush hog.
For up close pitching to laydowns etc. with 1/8 to 1/4 oz t-rig plastics or light wire jigs this rod is a lot of fun.

I'm looking at picking up the 852...I used to own an 852 bcr that was a little bad-ass. I'm a huge fan of the 1/8oz chompers rock walker jighead for beavers and such and that was the rod to throw them on. 3 1/2" tubes also.
Re: G Loomis NRX 802c
I own the NRX803c and used to own the BCR802glx. I felt the 802 got lost competing with my 852spinning. I feel the NRX852c would have more appeal and purpose then the 802c and almost no downside. I also like a little longer rod in 2 powers as my experience is it helps wrestle the big ones
Re: G Loomis NRX 802c
As far as I am concerned the 802C is a sleeper, and feel they are underrated with great backbone after a fish is hooked. I also use 2 NRX803C and 2 BCR 803C GLX for the same purpose and will grab the 802's first. They have either a CQ 50 or a CQ 50 DC mounted on them while casting weightless worms, smaller jigs, spiders and craws....My advice to you is get one and see for yourself ....

Indeed he may need to try for himself. I have the NRX803 and BCR803 on deck most of the time as well. I felt that the NRX803 has enough tip that I can present anything I want with it but pick it up because I prefer a little extra backbone. I recall missing a few big fish on the BCR802. it could have just been bad luck but after that I had hard time wanting to fish an 802. that I can present the same lures an 802 would with an 803 sealed the deal.rp346 wrote:As far as I am concerned the 802C is a sleeper, and feel they are underrated with great backbone after a fish is hooked. by the way, great looking rigs

I have the 802C NRX & use it for great lake smallies. It's a perfect jerk bait rod for me when using fluoro or copolymer lines. It has handled 6lb smallies with no problem.

I have one with a PX68L, and it is a great shakey head combo. It does general finesse really well.
Re: G Loomis NRX 802c
Have one myself. Deceptively powerful for such a light rod. Jerkbaits, poppers, finesse jigs, small spinnerbaits, 1/8oz texas rigs. I think it is at its best fishing plastics. If shorter is better than this rod is tough to beat. Just know that between the XF taper and it being a shorter rod that the 802C is one fast rod. Good luck!

If you don't mind green, Tackle warehouse has the 802 on sale for $300 right now. Pretty good deal there!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I appreciate everyone weighing in with their input.
What would the upper end of this rods capabilities? The rod rating notes 3/8 oz which equals the weight of a weightless senko. Would this be in the rods wheelhouse or is this starting to push the limit a bit much?

Don't know, never used mine for that.
Re: G Loomis NRX 802c
I had two 802's and I sold them a while back and I just took advantage of the sale that TW is having and I bought another 802 and the 842. From what I remember, I was using a 1/4oz bullet weight with a Trick Worm with the 802 so I don't think the Senko will be a problem.Fishing4Fun wrote:Thanks for the replies everyone! Was able to gather enough info from everyone that this rod would likely be the right fit for me only to find out that when I was ready the rod was sold out.romans wrote:If you don't mind green, Tackle warehouse has the 802 on sale for $300 right now. Pretty good deal there!
